EX3 soft case

Picking up the EX3 and a Macbook Pro this week, any recommendations for a soft case to carry the cam and laptop? Won't be using a Letus, rails etc., just the camera and laptop and an extra lens, battery & charger, roll of tape, wireless kit... Thanks...

Kata BP 502 ...

Kata BP 502 ...

I've been mulling over a soft bag for the EX3 and finally decided on the Kata 502. The camera will fit and allow for extras too. The only hassle is that the bag is 1"~2" over sized for carry-on luggage. I'm hoping that it won't be a problem. Here is Asia, the airlines are a bit more relaxed on carry-on compared to the states! I never ... if I can help it ... travel on US based carriers anymore anyway!
I know that carry-on bags are beginning to be weighed as well by many airlines, so, eventually we will all have to consider transport expenses. As it is, I'm paying over-weight on international flights and I'm searching for alternatives to get gear to it's destination. In Japan, they have excellent next day delivery of cases, packages, etc., anywhere in the country, so, some of the heavier gear gets sent via takubin over-night delivery service. Out side of the country is another question!

I called PortaBrace, they said at the moment they don't have a recommendation for a bag for the EX3 but would have something in a week or two, might wait to hear from them and see what they've got...

Thanks, Frank. Yeah, it's been very tricky to find one for it. The large 16x9 bag (made by Petrol) is nice, but lacks the laminate sheets to make it rigid. None of the Portabraces leave enuf room for accessories. I spoke with Lowepro and they have nothing to recommend either. Too bad, as I loved my Commercial AW bag for the DVX100. The Petrol PCUB-2 is the closest (of the not over- sized bags), but it tapers at the top, and all the accessories would have to be shoved to the front without dividers. I'd looked at at the Petrol PCTB-3 (backordered everywhere 6-10 weeks), but one commenter said that it didn't fit when you closed the lid. Don't know if he actually tried it, but it might be the case: the ex3 is about 8.75H and the PCTB-3 is only 9.1H. Not many options if you want to fit accessories in, unless you go to the big bags like the Kata 502, and then you run into the carry-on problem. I think I'm going to go with the Kata 195 and use my Brenthaven computer bag for the Mac and drives.

Have you tried either Petrol PDRB-3 or PDRB-4?

I think PDRB-3 would be better for airline carrying.

I have a PDRB-3 and it is quite adeuqate for EX-3. Would buy the Strut, but right now the Petrol is doing the job for me.
