EX3 Relay for Letus adaptors

This may not be the best use of the letus. Could you use the EX3 relay with the Letus and original EX3 stock lens in front of the letus instead of a prime?

It seems it's a decent zoom lens from what I've seen and if you buy an EX3 only to remove that lens is that a possible use and would it work well? I know your better off with primes but if your in a bind and don't have the proper glass can this work?

If not it seems like Sony should offer the EX3 without a lens for those who want it strictly for use with an adaptor.

Just a thought.....I only had one coffee today so please bear with me if I'm not making any sense! :)

fraid not! you have to use a 35mm lens on front on an adaptor. The EX3 stock lens is just 1/2" so the image out of it is waayyyyy too small for a 35mm adaptor...

I wasn't sure...thanks for clearing that up Philip. ...and thanks for keeping all of us informed on the latest tools.

Think of the cost of the camera with relay and adapter? That's a lot of money for most people that would be starting out with an EX3. So I think the idea of removing the stock lens from a purchase is slightly silly. There are plenty of times when shallow DOF is not necessary or desired. Think of it this way... you can buy the camera... then later buy an adapter... then finally buy a relay. It gives you a tiered method to expanding your kit. Anyway my 2 cents.

Additionally, I think it's helpful to remember exactly what DOFAs do and the science behind them. Projecting the EX3 stock lens onto the ground glass (screen) of the adapter... running it through the flip mechanism... through the relay... and into the sensor of the camera wouldn't make everything have shallow DOF. Instead, you'd just loose light... loose your zoom functionality... and potentially lead to some distortion and artifacts. Not to mention... the relay was designed for academy framing... so as Phil already said, the 1/2" image being project would be too small to use. It'd have a huge black frame around it.

Anyway... kikndrummer sorry to go off on this big explanation... but it's here for anyone in the future that might want to find it.

Philip Bloom just posted on "the other forum" that the new EX3 relay lens is 2 stops faster than when using the EX3 lens. WOW! (he estimates the price at around $4500......BIG bucks)
