EX3 problem

Any have or heard of soft focus issues on the wide side of the EX3?
I had 2 from BH with the same issue. Did all the BF resets, even took them to the lead tech at Discovery to confirm the
problem. Ultimately, I moved on and picked up an AF100. I've always loved what the EX cams produce, just wondering if
anyone else had issues. Maybe it was just a bad production lot or something. Dunno.

I bought one of the first Sony HVR-Z7Us when they came out and it was great for a few years. Then the wide shot started to become soft, especially when the iris is at full wide. I just switched over to the HPX250.

Be more specific about your problem. My guess is that it is probably an issue that many others figured out how to resolve. By specific I mean really detailed - when did you have soft problems. Was the camera actually focusing closer than infinity in which case its a BF issue or did you simply notice that it was soft when the iris was closed at f8 and beyond (f16) . There was a tendency for EX-3 's to need BF adjustment every time the lens was removed as I understand it.
If the latter you encountered the results of diffraction where the aperture is too small compared to the size of the sensor. On the 1/2" EX3 that starts happening at f8 and gets worse as you close doewn. You tend to notice it less on other small sensor cameras only because they don't have the inherently high resolution of the Ex-1 and 3. In fact Sony should have never allowed the lens to close past f8.
