We have upcoming shoot where i will be using an EX3... and a mate of mine has a 'Flycam' 5000 (no arm or vest) Im just wondering if anybody has used an EX3 with an IDX battery kit with the 'Flycam 5000 'handheld before?
the 5000 looks to be the equivalent of the Glidecam 4000pro in its design.
i used to use a glidecam 2000 pro (slightly smaller) without the vest on a DVX100a. handholding was a challenge if i had to hold it for more than 5 minutes and by the end of 4-5 minutes my hands and arms were burning. i eventually bought the smoothshooter vest and arm. problem solved.
i now use a Pilot with my EX1 and i can tell you that this rig is very heavy in relation to the Glicecam 2000 w/DVX100 and the EX1 is beastly compared to my DVX100a.
so, im thinking the stock EX3 is heavier than the stock EX1 and you using a battery system beyond that?
expect to become very uncomfortable quick. and...if your not used to using these types of rigs it will be even worse since it will be a shock to the muscles in your arms and hands. if you dont have a choice but to use it anyway then i would get the rig and spend a week or two building up your stamina by adding more time each day to how long you hold it.
unless you only need to do little sequences of like a minute or two...i think you are in for the shock of your life.
Yeah i have used my glidecam 2000 with vx2100 with fisheye etc quite a bit so i have experience that kind of pressure. although the EX3 will be a lot heavier i think i will give it a shot as i will probably only be using it for short spaces of time!
