EX1R Programmable Focus?

Hi Guys,

I know this is probably a silly question, but I've rented an EX1R for a shoot (and as part of research for my much-needed upgrade), and the guy tells me that this camera is capable of a programmable focus. He explained that I should be able to focus on a subject, then focus on another subject, frame my shot and activate a function that would automatically ramp between the two. I can't seem to find this mentioned in the manual or online anywhere. You guys seem to know pretty much everything about these cameras. . . do you know anything about a function like this?

Thanks,

Lawrence

Not sure about EX-1 but EX-3 has this. It's called "Shot transition" Push ST button, Set your A zoom and focus, set your B zoom and focus, then execute. Moves from one to other and set speed as well.

You can set the damping as well so that it eases to a start or eases to a stop or both. I've only done it on the EX-3, thought the other EX cams had it though. I think the EX-3 used dedicated buttons for it, didn't it?

You guys are fantastic! Thanks!! It works as advertised, and it's an amazing feature. I am really excited about checking this out on my shoot today. I have found this shot impossible to get by myself in the past, and even difficult using my remote focus control. It does have dedicated buttons on the EX1R. It's very intuitive and easy to figure out (without even reading the manual). I like that.

I appreciate your quick responses.

Thanks,

Lawrence Ingram
