EX1r output on SDI not progressive!

In the menu, scroll down to 'others'. Then scroll down to 'genlock'. Change from 60i to 24PsF. At least, that's how it works in the EX3.

Its the 24p in a 60i wrapper, but it has flags. If you're using the Nanoflash on the HD-SDI out you just set it for automatic pulldown removal.

THe EX1R does not have genlock so I don't have it in the OTHERS menu. As for pulldown, I don't see that in the KiPro menu either. So, am I stuck with 1080i? Bummers!

Since its flagged pulldown it can be removed by lots of programs in post, Premier, AE, Avisynth, etc.

According to the manual, if you go to menu, then 'others', and select 'video format'. This affects which signal is sent through HD-SDI. I have a hard time believing that Sony wouldn't include 24p on the EX1R. I did read somewhere that the EX1 did not come with 24p but later received a firmware upgrade to include it. Good Luck!

Indeed there is an option to send 24Psf or 60i though the SDI when in 1080P24, but not when doing 1080p30. It sends it out as 60i no matter what. Would I just have to process it through Compressor or AE? If so, what a pain. Why would they do this?

Because the HD-SDI standard doesn't allow for a progressive signal any more than HDMI v1.1 and 1.2 allow for a progressive signal. The data format wasn't designed into the hardware.

Most devices that connect to HD-SDI (like monitors and the Nanoflash) are professional and can remove pulldown automatically. I don't know of anything consumer grade that connects to HD-SDI. HDMI v1.3 can do it but requires a much higher bandwidth.

Your 30p sent via a 60i wrapper is still 30p. You just need to put the two sliced up images back together. I think most NLEs would call that 'deinterlace'.
