EX1 Water Damage

Hello,

I was shooting a scene last night and the camera got exposed to some water in the shower. We quickly dried it off, but the camera stopped focusing. This morning, the zoom function doesn't work, the focus doesn't work, and the sides of the image vignette.

We didn't loose our footage, all the camera menu functions still operate, but because of the issues stated above, something is wrong with the lens/electronics. Is there anything I can do to fix this myself? Any suggestions on where to go to get it repaired?

Thanks.

I really hope you have camera insurance.

Sounds bad. Best bet is to get it off to Sony for repairs asap. I Hope its not too expensive fox.

In the future, if by chance you get your camera wet (not dunked, but suspect water may have gotten inside), I would immediately remove the battery and not turn on the power for a few days in hopes any moisture/water might dry up. Once you power up the circuits when they're wet... *kapoof* for sure.

Obviously water is a digital camera's worst nightmare (well, besides dropping it off a 200' cliff), and warranties usually exlude water damage. Some warranties might be all inclusive and include any accidental damage, but it is the exception.

For future shootings around water, Ewa-Marine makes a good waterproof bag for the EX1, I have one, but it's pretty expensive, but not as expensive as losing an EX1 to water damage.

I'm thinkng maybe you could take it/ship it to a Sony shop and see what they say. Best of luck, I hope it's not totally ruined.

Hope she was worth it. :)

As Forrest said, get the camera to a service center as soon as possible. Not much choice otherwise. Perhaps the lens section needs to be changed and the rest is OK. So perhaps it's not a total loss.
