EX1 Slow motion workflow

Hello,

I am shooting a short movie with a few dance moves and fight scenes, i would like to slow motion them in post.

I will be shooting with the ex1 in 720p50p and with the S&Q function set to 50. Will this be enough to shoot the actors getting hit by the punches in slow motion? Or the dance moves?

Most important: Is it possible i shoot everything with S&Q motion and then choose which shot to actually slow motion?

What is the workflow for slow motion in premiere pro? I have only found FCP and cinematools workflow.

Thank you,
Sebastian Plamadeala

Hi Sebastian:

Shooting with 720p50p mode with S&Q set to 50 will not give you slomo, but rather S&Q at 50 while shooting in 720p25p will give you slomo.

I do a lot of shooting in 720p50 for slomo work in FCP. Most of it on a Steadicam for high-end wedding shoots. We shoot at 720p50P with the shutter switched to off, and not using the S&Q function. We then import the clips as normal into FCP using XDCcam Xfr as 720p50p clips, then we export each clip we want to slomo as a Prores 1280x720 50p file. We then we use Cinema Tools to bulk conform all the Prores clips in the export folder to 25p. We then copy the files back into the project. and when played back on a 25p timeline, we have perfect slomo at 50% speed. We use this method primarily because we do not want to slomo every shot, and we also want to record live sound the entire time.

We have also used the Twixtor plugin, which if used carefully, can give pretty amazing slomo effects.

Good luck.

you can use motion optical flow, too. or as michael said use twixtor.

But cinema tools is great, can really get clear motion too :)

wouldn't slow it in post tho, looks too amateur. shoot 720p 25p 60 frames is nice :) nice for timelaspes with a slow shutter :)

Good luck.
