EX1 On-Off switch...

I looked at an EX1R before buying a used EX1. One improvement I noticed was that the buttons and switches have been improved on the R.

While shooting this weekend on my EX1 I had a lot of trouble with the on-off switch. My finger nails are short, my fingers are big and the switch is smooth and recessed.

The result was taking several tries to move the switch and when I did move it the thing often ended up in the wrong place.

I'm considering the following remedies:

a) filing the groove in the switch a little deeper and sharper.
I'm concerned this will compromise the strength of the switch and might not give enough traction. I have a slight concern about getting plastic dust inside.

b) put a blob of dark gray JB Weld on the switch
and sculpt it to stick out more like the R switch. I'm concerned it won't look professional, may reduce resale value, or may not stick on in the long run.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any other suggestions?

The groove is rounded and smooth. It doesn't take much, like stiffness from cold weather, sweat, or some other issue to make it less usable, fingernails or not.

the on and off switch on the EX1 is a POS. how designers can let this happen for this amount of money is mind boggling!

How about trying something not so destructive like sticking a small piece of velcro on the switch to make it rise out of its channel so you can move it.

i would find a cheap toy/device that has same kind of switch, but bigger and recessed into the case. Then i would cute the part of the case to get the frame and the switch and glue it onto camera.
look at the big sized calculator, they got sometimes several slide switch .
choose a black one.

I have considered super-gluing a small piece of plastic to the face of the switch. The trick is going to be getting the plastic to match the curves of the switch.

One of these days I'll get pissed off enough to actually do it.

Even better would be if one of the "cnc" capable people on this forum start making a little nub that matches the switch face.

Absolutely - but if they do, another piece like that would be welcome to attach to the clumsy ND filter switch!

I'm ready to pay for a set of professionally looking, ready to attach, switch "extensions" like these...
