ex1 hit by wave

I heard about the alcohol technique. The idea behind that was to flush the camera with fresh water to drive out the salt, then follow up with alcohol to drive out the water. Then get the camera to a repair facility ASAP.

A couple decades ago we had a very good repairman here who was able to rehab a Canon F1 SLR that got flooded in an underwater housing for about $70. It functioned perfectly. But that was a mechanical camera with very little electronics except for a meter. The guy moved to Florida and we totally lost track of him. He was probably the best camera repair/maintenance person I'd ever met.

Salt Away works great. I use it to flush down everything on the boat including the radio, GPS and sonar -- which are all waterproof. I wash down my tripod after any trips to the beach, followed up with Corrosion Block.

Using products like that might not prevent the camera from turning to a display piece, but it can't hurt, considering that doing nothing is the worst option.

Other more useful advice than my first reply:

Get insurance that includes water shocks/whatnot for your camera. As they say, life happens. The EX1 costs as much as a used budget car and it only makes sense to have some sort of damage insurance for it.

"1. Beat the sh*t out of your friend.
2. Find new friends who are camera savy and intelligent
3. Take pictures of friend doing something like cheating on wife and blackmail friend into giving you 6,000 dollars for new camera."
