Ex1 Footage not importing to FCP

I'm editing a show shot on the ex1. The original cards were backed up in their original format. The drive i am editing from had crashed and needed to be reformatted. I am trying to re-ingest the footage that was lost, but one card seemed to have not been copied properly, it is missing the "CUEUP.XML, MEDIAPRO.XML and the TAKR folder. All the other files seem to be there. Is there a way to still import this card using another method?

Have you FCP 6.04 or newer fcp? Have you installed the newest SxS drivers? Have you installed the XDCAM Transfeer 2.8.0 software from Sony? If all above i realy dont know whats wrong..

If the CLPR folder is still there, you're in business. That's where the video files are. You need to recover those, and then find a way to convert them into something you can use.

I do this all the time on the PC, but don't know what to use on the Mac. But take comfort that all is not lost.

I have all the latest updates, but because (for some strange reason) those folders are missing, none of the import programs recognize the folder. I keep getting errors, I even copied the "CUEUP.XML, MEDIAPRO.XML and the TAKR folder from another card but that didn't work either.

You can't drop those into FCP. You need a converter. I'm not at the office so I don't know if QTPro will do it.

Are you running Bootcamp? If so I have a solution you can download.

Hey Belzee

These files can be regenerated. Two methods:

1) Copy all the material that you have left (The BPAV folder and everything in it) to a SxS Card. Don't copy the files from the another card. Then insert the card back into the camera. The camera MAY attempt to repair the structure, and then you are back in business. If this doesn't work then try..

2) Manually recreating the files. Open up the files from another card and edit them in a text editor. If you look at the structure of the file you should be able to change the clip names so that everything points to the right place - this can be an annoying and trial by error process.

If none of that works you can still see the footage by playing it directly out of the CLPR folders. The .MP4 files can be played in the free VLC Media Player (download this regardless it's great). Then you can attempt to transcode the .mp4 file to MOV. Here is a description - http://wiki.videolan.org/Transcode_WM_to_Mov_or_MP4

I work at AbelCineTech and we would be willing to help you do this if needed. Hope that helps.

I know this is a late entry to the thread, but for anyone coming across this problem in the future, here's a solution. Open the Sony Clip Browser and navigate to the media. Open a clip in the Clip Browser. Close Clip Browser. You should now have the two XML files in the correct place within the BPAV folder.
