EX1 Feature films up in HD on Youtube

Now that YouTube has added a 'viewable' HD to their uploads, I have a few clips (more coming) from the feature KERBEROS shot on the EX1. Hundreds of people across the web have commented on the stills and cinematography in the film on the site, so finally I can show you what this looks like in motion!

While not a perfect rendition, I feel that these look good enough to get the idea.

The open titles - were shot with no lights or bounce - just a guy trying to hold an umbrella while shooting!

The Prison/streets fights were shot with available streetlights, a couple 1 K's, and the headlights of the cars. The prison scene had a couple 1 K's with bounce and two high powered flashlights manned by the crowd raking across the bodies as they were fighting.

The "What was I supposed to do scene" had a couple of 1 K's, a mini kino in the car, a handheld flashlight for fill (by the actor by the way) and the outside security lights adding a bit of depth.

More coming as well a page explaining a bit more - and of course lots of stills and frame grabs, color grading examples on the site KERBEROS movie site

The opening was a very powerful mood piece. A treat to see and hear. I wasnt sure which was the next clip to watch that was supposed to follow the titles. Very nice title sequence!

That was amazing. I wanted to ask you what kind of lights you used for that opening sequence and possibly your picture profile settings I am just getting to know my EX1R and would love some advice from others.

The "open" with titles had no lights of any kind - just me setting up the cameraman and the shots under an umbrella - and running and jumping into frame. A lot of color grading going on. The default settings on the pic profiles. I experimented with many settings over the course of the movie - and the defaults seemed to give me the most latitude to play when I went to color correct and grade. The are many notes and examples as well as basic 'where to begin" on the Kerberos site. Might be interesting to some that it was about 80 degrees out that day (actually 4 days! as the rain kept stopping) The breath was done in post to add consistency to the next few scenes :) And I neared the end of the shooting - I found that a 125 shutter gave me the look I wanted - even on int dialog scenes. There is some inherent compression that goes on in the rendering and subsequent encoding - and I feel 48 feels a fraction soft as is.

OK - FULL chase scene up - available light - 1 man crew, dolly and jib set ups by the actors, done in single afternoon of filming, and then another day for Foley...

Another amazing clip. Especially for the crew you had (1+). Depending on the script,
I think you should seriously consider entering your final piece in film competitions.
And if its a killer script with great acting maybe a student competition at Sundance. You defiantly have the golden touch. Nice job.

Update..never mind. After checking out your website you are way ahead of my suggestions.

Thanks again! At this stage - the pats on the back are about all we get.. :) I wonder if I should create page and put up all the nice comments we've had with links to everyone who posts them.... maybe fun and another way for me to help spread your links...

this was the review we picked up from an early test screening before production was done.

Kely McClung, Matt Sconce, and doc filmmaker Akiko Izumitani

Like lots of other DVXers out there, we screened our film at the Action On Film Festival this past week in Pasadena. There were so many films playing, that I did not get to meet everyone or see more than a fraction of the movies playing.

I did see a couple great films from Stan Harrington and Matt Sconce - both of whom won awards for their fine films... both filmmakers were a blast to hang out with and learn from.

Akiko Izumitani

Akiko was there to show her documentary "Silent Shame" - people really responded and we then somehow talked her into hanging out with us... if you get the chance to see this powerful doc, see it... professional in every way and an important slice of history that resonates with everything going on in the world today.

More info on this awesome fest and experience coming soon - and there's a quick blog I knocked out this morning at the top of the KERBEROS WEBSITE

I had the privilege to see Kerberos at the AOF and it was a great movie that got a huge response. After seeing its award nominations I knew it would be great. The EX1 sure looked DARN good projected onto that screen! Kely has done a terrific job and is a great guy. I wish this project the best. I would love to see it in theaters or Video stores everywhere soon!
