Hi,

My Ex1 is in for repair due to a strange looking crack on the image. I couldn't see anything on the lens.Even when looking for a crack in the lens, I could see nothing. I literally filmed something one minute then switched off and about 5 -10 minutes later found something else to film and that's when I noticed it. During this time It wasn't dropped or mistreated in any way.
Anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is and what might have caused it?

The vignette in this footage is due to an adapter ring.

Thanks

Can this be burning in due to direct sunlight?

I moved my camera around a bit to try and move anything that may have been lodged on the sensor, I couldn't get it to move in the slightest. It looks very much like a crack somewhere to me. I've used it on hot days and the day it appeared, yes, it was hot, it hadn't been in direct sunlight though. The day before was much hotter and I used it then with no problems. It's not only strange, but worrying. If it is a crack somewhere it does beg questions about the quality of parts used in the unit. This unit is less than a year old and has less than 180 hours on it. I expect much better from something that I payed such a large amount of money for.

It also looks to me like a piece of hair/fluff on one of the three chips. My first EX1 lens had a bunch of crud inside of it until they replaced it under warranty. I couldn't detect it until I stopped down to f11 or f16.
