Ex1 data rate ?

Can anyone give me a bit of insight as to why the VBR of my footage is 35mbs but when imported in to FCP and I check the item properties the Data Rate is 4.3mbs. Is there a difference between bit rate and data rate?

35 Mbps (note the small "b") and 4.3 MBps (note the capital "B"). There are 8 bits in a byte (don't get me started) so multiply 4.3 * 8, and you get...

?? Did you mean that some bytes can have other number of bits? Then use the word "octet"
