EX1 AV output to external monitor

Cannot seem to get a signal through from the EX1 to an external monitor using the AV output and supplied cable. I think I have done what the manual orders ... "YPbPr/SDI out select HD" and "YPbPr/SDI Out Display Off".
But no signal is coming through either in Camera or Media playback mode.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.:crybaby:

if you are using the composite single yellow video cable, then you definitely don't want to select sdi out HD, you would want to select Composite

Thanks for replying. Yes, I am using the composite yellow cable. I have the menu open at VIDEO SET, and only 2 subjects are accessible: "YPbPr/SDI Out Select" and "YPbPr/SDI Out Display". The other subjects "Video Out Display", "Set up" and "Down Converter" are all greyed out. Can't see an option for Composite. Appreciate any further guidance (and apologies for not seeing the obvious).

Hmm, you should have an "output select" menu at the very top, and composite should be an option. Here's what mine looks like, with the camera in 1920HQ mode. What mode is your ex in? if it's in a weird mode like one of the SP modes, composite might not be an option. Note this is an ex1r so you won't have the hdmi option, but I remember the rest of the menu being the same

If you don't have those options, try setting the "YPbPr/SDI out select option you have to SD, not HD

Thanks so much for the help. I am in HQ 1080/25P
and the (non HD) monitor is datavideo 7" TLM700.
I have just tried the SD option (both with display on and off) but unfortunately no joy.
This is an early EX1 (v 1.03_0351) so don't know if that might be a factor??

Hmmm. The early firmware you are running could be the reason your menu is different, but you should still be able to configure it for composite output. In the output menu in the picture I posted, you only have those two options? Maybe someone with an ex1 can chime in, it's been a while since I've used a non-r version

Fohdeesha, thanks again for your replies. You gave me the nudge to take another critical look at the menu (including accessing the "hidden" memory) and while trying out all the different options, I stumbled upon where I had been going wrong. I had originally thought the manual was directing me to: "YPbPr/SDI out select HD" and "YPbPr/SDI Out Display Off". But infact the first item needs to be "YPbPr/SDI out select OFF" and then the AV out works to the monitor (the second menu item "Display" refers to whether or not the various setting information is displayed on the monitor). I will be working with an EX1R next month, so will compare menus then. Thanks again for helping the light to dawn.

Always check the video "output table" found in your Sony manual before you attempting to view an image from this camera to save time.
And yes, it is confusing at first, but changing the camera menus will show the appropriate output image.
Sony really makes you work at this one!
