No. All DV systems are uncompressed digital audio, but there's miles and miles of difference between a professional DVCAM unit and a little Sony consumercam. The pre-amps and all the other circuitry has a huge effect on the final processed audio that's going to be recorded, even though the final recording mechanism is identical (48khz uncompressed 16-bit PCM).I always have felt that the difference between uncompressed digital systems at a given sampling rate are generally inaudible except when pushed really hard, and that all you'd ever really hear are issues introduced by the mic or other analog input devices, no?
When kubalsky arrives in Japan and if he is willing. I plan to do a little audio test for reference.
I will use a high quality mic - sanken cs3 (I would hate people to come back and say this was x or y because of the crappy mic you used). I will use exactly the same mic and set up for all cams so the only variable possible are the preamps and recording process. I promise to place the samples online for listening unadultered. kubalsky can hang around whilst I do it for verification of that. I will test on
Canon A1
Panasonic HVX
Sony EX1
Panasonic HPX.
Unless someone else shows up with another test camera, thats it![]()
