Ex1 and lens for Letus

I am thinking of getting a Letus Extreme with an achromat optimizer for my EX1. Just can't figure out what lens (35 mm vs 50 mm - budget for one only) to get. Haven't found any info on this topic. The goal is to shoot shorts in controlled lighting - both indoor and outdoors.

50 mm seems like a middle of the road choice, but am afraid that it may not work in a tight space (like a normal size room). Don't know how much DOF I can get with a 35 mm.

Then comes the conversion factor which I have no idea what it is for an EX1 (may be 1.5).

So, hoping some one can give me an advice here.

Also please advice on lens type as they go from $200 to $2,000. Like most, my budget is pretty tight.
 
Why do you go the 35mm adapter way? Aren't they so 2009? Why not get an upcoming gh3 or something similar instead?

As an ex1r user, i 'personally' don't get why anyone would want a 35mm adapter in 2012. Ex1 is already a noisy camera, yet you'll lose even more light with the adapter. It makes the camera bigger, heavier, longer. Plus you'll have limitations with your shutter speed and aperture with the extreme.

Get a dslr instead. You'll have 2 cameras. You can use the dslr on a glidecam, without wearing a vest. It can shoot photos. It's smaller, lighter. Doesn't it make much more sense?
 
That is a good thoughtful reply. I could use a DSLR for certain scenes. Have heard a lot about 7D. Any personal experience? I do need a bit good quality as am aiming for a feature film in the near future. Never heard of gh3 - will look into it also.

I mentioned gh3 because i'm kinda in the same boat as you are. I can't hand hold my ex1r on the glidecam for longer than 15 secs. I'll either invest in a vest (2k$) or get a small compact camera for that purpose. Latter option makes more sense to me so i suggested the same thing to you.

If you need something right now, you may also look at panasonic gh2. It has a very unique look to it (many people say the same thing). B&H sells one with 14-42 lens for 785$ (almost same price as extreme + supports). I watched many 35mm adapter + ex1 footage on the web and they all look very 'videoish' and that's because of the sensor in the camera (there was a debate on this matter regarding sony f3 in somewhere too). Shallow DOF is nice, but it's not everything when it comes down to 'film like images'. Panasonic gh3 is said to be using a sony sensor in it so i'm waiting for some good reviews with lots of footage now, instead of pre-ordering it right away.

That's all i can help with. 35mm adapter way 'may' make sense, if you've already invested quite some money for your ex1, with cards, batteries and such. But as i said, it will make your camera bigger, it will lower it's already crippled low light capabilities and you'll be limited with shutter speed and aperture settings.

You do make sense. 35mm adapter with lens will be close to $1,200+. Might be worth putting this money into a DSLR. Read a lot about Canon 5D Mark iii. So tempted to buy it, but is expensive. GH3 looks good especially given the price, but there are no real reviews out there yet. So the best bet, as you suggested, will be to wait.
 
You can find dof adapters for a few hundred bucks these days. But yeah, I say go with the gh2, then hack it. You can get some great looking footage from them, and their cheap, very cheap. Not to mention, you can use Canon FD glass, or even the old m-42 mount lenses which are also very affordable.
