EX1/3 HD/SDI port: Interlaced or Progressive?

alright, i own an EX1 and about 2/3 months ago i upgraded to Version 1.11 (the lastest??? for EX1) and found out that i could finally get a progressive signal out of the HD/SDI port. well, i just worked on a project with an EX3 and we were monitored to a Panasonic 17" HD Monitor thru the HD/SDI port. i noticed something strange when i was switching between the SDI inputs on the front of the monitor. when i switeched to SDI 1(which we were connected to) the monitor read 1080/60i or 1080/59.9i not 1080/30P which we were recording. can you monitor out the camera's recording format? ie: 1080/24P or 1080/30P or does it monitor out an interlaced signal???

very confused. please help.

In 1080/29.97P mode, the HD-SDI outputs 1080/29.97PsF. In 1080/23.98P mode, HD-SDI outputs 1080/59.94i unless you have Genlock set to 24P System, in which case it outputs 1080/23.98PsF.
There are clues in the manual, it's worth a read.

well that's interesting because as i said we were recording 1080/30P and the signal read 1080/60i or 59.94i.

In 1080/29.97P mode, the HD-SDI outputs 1080/29.97PsF.

PsF means Progressive Segmented Frame. One Progressive Frame is displayed as two interlaced frames, though both interlaced frames are alternate lines from one progressive frame. The combined interlaced frames make one progressive frame when deinterlaced.
Not all equipment understands PsF, and doesn't deinterlace. I'm not sure there is a flag embedded to identify PsF, but I imagine there is as it's a common thing to support interlaced monitors.
In short, the signal the EX3 outputs in 1080/29.97P is interlaced, but it's supposed to be deinterlaced by the monitor.
