Hi,

I am experiencing this very weird banding.. If i play it fast it moves from down to up..
It was recorded at 1/1000 Shutter and is going away when i use normal shutter like 1/60 ..

It doesnt show until 1/500..

Is there something wrong with the camera?
Help would be really appreciated..

thanks,

phil

go into the menu and turn flicker reduce off. If thats not it, I'd suspect that with a shutter that high you're just catching the florescents as they flicker

Thanks for the reply.. :)

Flicker reduce is off.. and the florescent light is turned off in the second pic.. just daylight coming in.

no problem!

well hmm, that's very odd then. I had a similar problem with my ex1, but it was the flicker reduce function being on that was causing it. When I set it to off the problem disappeared. Try updating your firmware? no artificial light source in that pic at all? if not, I really can't think or anything else, I've never seen that before. how high do you have the gain turned up? could be severe noise in the circuitry, but I've never seen severe noise present in a rolling bar manor.

What format are you recording in? If you're recording interlaced, I could definitely see that being it.

any particular reason for needing such a high shutter speed?

its interlaced......

and i have to excuse me.. I rechecked the location... there was a florescent light on in the second pic..not direct.. only around the corner.. i turned it off and the banding was gone... so this flickering is quite normal?
ok..
i dont really ever need 1/1000 shutter indoor so it doesnt hurt me at all.... but was quite shocked about this flickering picture.....
but if its normal than its normal....

thanks very much for the help...

Old fashioned or cheap magnetic ballasts in florescent fixtures cycle much slower than modern electronic ballasts and are known to cause flickering if their cycle doesn't match the cycle of the camera. Its an interaction of several things including the fps the camera is shooting, the electrical cycle of the country where you are shooting, the speed of the shutter, etc. Video and film florescent fixtures must be of the 'continuous' type.
