Evolutionary Changes to HMC40??

NON-MODERATOR COMPARISON! LOOK OUT BELOW!

30p = 29.97 1920x1080 full frames / 29.97fps 1920x1080 stream
60i = 59.94 1920x540 fields (half frames) / 29.97fps 1920x1080 stream
60p = 59.94 1280x720 full frames / 59.94fps 1280x720 stream

Also, attempting to school the guy who, quite literally, wrote the book on the HMC40? Really?

We are talking about the best resolution and frames per second for DVD down scaling from the formats offered by the HMC40
AND AS YOU JUST WROTE , Progressive are full frames and interlaced are half frames.
Interlaced gives you jaggy edges , Progressive are full pictures.
I'm not trying to school nothing, just to clear concepts REALLY

What are we talking about ? Africa, China, Japan ? Interlaced vs Progressive.
Felipe, I understand that English is not your native language. Neither it is my native language. But if you want to continue meaningful discussion you need to phrase your thoughts in a more coherent manner.

Search for "bob deinterlacing".

Ok Drill first that all we are talking in a UNIVERSAL common language named video.
Before anything, I want to clear my concepts based on my experience with the HMC40.
If they work for you, you can thank me, is free for you.
1- Down scaling to dvd is better from 720 30p, because looks smoother than 60p.
2- 60p does work since will be down rated to 29.97 , 60P is great for Blu-ray but not as smooth as 30 p when down scaled to DVD
( great for slow motion )
3- I prefer to convert to interlaced in Architect , and render progressive in Vegas .

The meaning of the words is meaning less, since we are talking in the images language.
And last, friend maybe some other time we will share same concepts.
GO AHEAD WHAT ARE YOUR POINTS DEAR

* According to Bernie, with 720p you do not see interlaced artifacts, while 1080i produces jaggies. Then why the example in 1:00-1:07 has no jaggies despite that it has been shot at 1080i? And HOW do they display interlaced video through progressive video service on a progressive-scan computer monitor?
* Lower quality settings are available only for interlaced video. Why there are no jaggies at 3:20?
* Progressive image can be frozen? Well, so can be interlaced image, most DVD/BD players simply display one field, no jaggies.
* 30p looks more "film-like" than 60p or 60i? It does, but you cannot see the difference in a YouTube video, because the average rate for YouTube clips is 30 fps. Until recently YouTube used fixed frame rate that maxed out at 30 fps. YouTube has recently switched to variable frame rate (VFR), which can reach as high as 55 fps (I tested on my videos, on other videos it may even hit 60 fps), but AVERAGE rate is still 30 fps and you will likely NOT see any difference between 30 fps and 60 fps.
* Colors are more subtle at 24 fps? Really? What is the relation of colors to frame rate?

The bottom line: Panasonic has already sold you the camera, do not buy this... stuff.

YouTube is limited to 30fps (ok, ok, VFR) progressive. You cannot watch interlaced via YouTube. You cannot watch 60p via YouTube. As for artifacts, deinterlace properly and you will not see any.

Drill if you don't have a job, you should work for Panasonic, I understand the pay great salaries to genius like you , with your own very
particular concepts, even more I could hire you send me your CV in plain format and desired salary .

Down scaling to dvd is better from 720 30p, because looks smoother than 60p. ... 60P is great for Blu-ray but not as smooth as 30 p when down scaled to DVD.
I see no point to argue anymore. Shoot in whatever format you like, just do not spread misinformation.

Down scaling to dvd is better from 720 30p, because looks smoother than 60p.

If you were to film the same clip at 60p and 30p, with the same shutterspeed, exposure, white-balance, etc., put the two clips on the same timeline, and rendered the timeline to a 30p video, the clips would look exactly the same.

Also, if you were to make an interlaced (rather than progressive) DVD, 60p would be smoother than 30p, as you would simply convert each frame into a field, rather than convert each frame to a field and then interpolate between frames to fields.

Not exactly Dear, in HD 60P will look smoother since has more information, The point is when you convert to DVD will probably have to much information to interlace
since the reason to interlace is because are 60 half frames and not 60 full frames. The effect is evident when you convert to interlaced in DVD Architect .
I REPEAT that 720 60P does work well but 30p looks to me a bit smother in the movements when you down convert to DVD

So, by your logic, if I wanted to make a 60i (read: non-progressive) DVD, I'm better off shooting in 30p than in 60p because it will... I'm honestly not even sure what you're trying to say here, because it doesn't make any sense.

If you're making 60 half-frames, it's going to look better starting with 60 full frames than 30 full frames, simply due to the fact that you can easily take 60 half frames out of 60p source, whereas you would take 30 half frames out of 30p source and then have to create 30 more half frames from non-existent footage, via interpolation of the original 30p source.

If I'm making 60 half frames I'll get 29.97 interlaced frames.
If I'm making 30 full frames I can get 29.97 progressive frames that later in DVD architect will become interlaced .
If I'm making 60 full frames I get 29.97 progressive frames with 30 EXTRA FRAMES BETWEEN FRAMES.
At the moment of the interlacing that file from the 60p will give the software a harder work to create an interlaced 29.97 DVD.
60 half frames are not 60 full frames are 29.97 frames interlaced.
That is probably the reason why it looks a little smoother. It is workable any way.
I've always like the word Dear sounds so elegant.Remember me my year at Cambridge, British are so elegant and Phlegmatic.
