EVF SOLUTION (for now...)

Thierry, Could you detail which components you used to create the UCS mount and where did you purchase? They don't seem to have prices on the web site that I can find.

Ned

Sure, here is a scan of my invoice. There are a couple extras to make this truly versatile. On the EVF, I think it is best to use the Ultralight 1/4-20 adaptor w/o stud and use a 25mm long Hex screw accross the cheese stick. This will prevent any spin. I am also modifyin a Manfrotto clamp so I can set it to the front of the F3 handle support and have the Ultralight ball stud in front of the handle. A side not on using the F3 hot shoe. It works but I think this is quite weak. Not recommended IMO.

Cheers,

Filmtools carries the UCS products but they will charge you an insane $50 amount for ground shipping :Drogar-Shock(DBG):. I bought my stuff from www.backscatter.com, very prompt service and 1-3 day UPS is free for orders over $200.

Cheers,

I'm using the Petrol Dr. Bag 005 as well. I thought it was going to be exceedingly large but it isn't by any stretch. Once you load up your F3 with accessories the bag does not seem big at all. I used a bunch of dividers from a Pelican set I had to add more compartments in the bag as it is designed for a self contained ENG camera. When I got it B & H sold it with the trolley cart. It was good value in my mind.

Nice job Thierry on your solid mounting apparatus.

I think the next size down, the PC004, should work as well. I have one on order and will report back when it arrives.

Not to take the thread off course, but has anyone had problems with the DP4 overheating? Mine gets exceptionally hot, and then the image starts to go in and out, alternating between image and blue screen. I'm using its pass-through to feed my director's monitor, which never loses a signal even when the DP4 is spazzing out.

I can't find anyone with a single issue like this with their DP4.

Jordan, haven't had any problems but I haven't had it on for an entire day. Usually for a couple of hours at a time. Mine gets typically warm but not super hot.

How long in operation does it take for the unit to get really hot and began to "spaz out" and are you attaching batteries to the back or getting your power from the power outlet?

A troubleshooting idea... Try running it without a pass-through feed to see if that is the cause. Once others pipe in and if the others don't have similar issues I would look to get an RMA from SmallHD and get them to issue you a new one.

I had it on for close to 8 hours straight. A normal shoot day. It gets hot enough to be painful to touch.

I'm feeding it 12V from a V-mount battery.

I have it set up with pass-through. It takes a direct line out from my camera (this last weekend, the F3) and then loops out to the director's monitor (a cheap 7"). When it starts to spaz out, going blue and then bringing the image back, the director's monitor is completely unfazed.

Weird, huh?

The Petrol PC004 arrived yesterday. It's a perfect fit for the F3 and Berkey system with rod attached. as well as the Z-Finder, lenses, batts, etc.

IMG_3295.JPGYou bagged your VF like I did. For all others, what works well is use a black (wrist) sweat band and just sew up one end. And I cut out a small piece of 1/8 black hard foam in a little square to slip perfectly in grooves to protect VF glass. And the sweat band stays on tight.

I "bagged" my VF with car polishing pad cover (soft fabric with rubber band for machine car polishing, $7), i have one for DP4 as well...

thanks for all of the info in this thread - it inspired me to make adapt a loupe (Chinese 3 inch one) for my HDX250 with a piece of 20mm dense foam cut out to make a spacer so that the whole of the LCD screen can be seen
