EVF Issue?

I have a weird issue with my EVF, and I'm not sure if I'm going crazy or there's something wrong with my camera...

When looking through the EVF, I'm seeing little "chroma blocks" or lines, randomly appearing for an instant on certain parts of the display. They seem to be occurring around portions of the display information, like the safe guides or the other numbers on the screen. It happens when I'm moving the camera.

I don't know how to describe it....I'll see red/green/blue lines sort of outlining the guide lines for a split second and then its gone. Other times I'll see a little block of red/green/blue pop up in a corner. It happens so fast that at first I thought I was seeing things, but other people have looked into the viewfinder and seen the same thing...does anyone have any idea what I'm experiencing here?

I should add, this doesn't occur on my LCD screen, and it doesn't affect the recorded image at all. Just the EVF.

You're probably seeing the sequential RGB effect. Try this -- put the lens cap on, and put up the grid marker (the tic-tac-toe display). Then, flick your eye quickly across the EVF -- look left, then quickly look right. You'll probably see a red grid, then a green grid, etc. When you look directly at it, you'll see a full-color display, but if you quickly dart your eye around, you'll see breakouts of individual colors.

If that's what you're seeing, it's perfectly normal, it's the way the LCoS technology works. You see incredibly high res imagery with no pixel effect (no "screen door" effect) because all the pixels are cosited and they sequentially (at very high frequency) display red, green, and then blue. On an LCD you'll see a grainy bitty texture because an LCD has actual green, red, and blue sub-pixels on the screen.

It's also known as the "DLP Rainbow" effect, because DLPs do it too. Happened on my GH1, happens on my GH2, happens on the AF100, probably happens on the HPX370, probably happens on every LCoS display out there.

Now, if that's NOT what you're seeing, then ... um, no, no idea, and maybe it's time for it to head to the repair shop. But hopefully you're just seeing the LCoS effect.

Yep, that was it! I'd never seen anything like this before, so I was a little put off by it.

Is there a way to clear the display information from the EVF, while leaving it on the LCD? Or are both images always identical?

Thanks Barry!

Unrelated, but about the evf. Is that a minus-green I see on the viewfinder? Is that why it's more accurate than the lcd? If so I wonder if a minus green would correct the lcd?
