GH2 EVF for Run N Gun?

Hello wonderful forum members!

I was just wondering if users of the GH2 find the EVF useable for run n gun scenarios.

You can assume the GH2 would be stabilised with a shoulder/handheld rig.
I just want to know if its useable in bright sunlight and if its ergonomically decent/comparable to something like the LCDVF.

If its already built into the GH2 (and works) I dont see why I should purchase a separate viewfinder. I know it has the high resolution but I just wanted to know from someone with hands on experience. Its one thing to read online and another to actually use.

:) Thanks

I really like the EVF of the GH2. It is I think more detailed than the GH1 and you can focus very well with it. Also by pressing your eye to the viewfinder you get another point of contact which in turn steadies the camera further. The only problem is that you do get light leak as your eye can't totally cover the viewfinder. It needs an eyecup and I am waiting for mine to arrive in the post. It isn't a part from Panasonic just a generic eyecup I will DIY a mount for. I am waiting on the Varavon viewfinder for the GH2. However it has been "coming soon" for a long time and it may be vapourware, which would be a shame as it looks like a perfect solution. Only thing is the flip screen doesn't have the same dot resolution as the EVF so if you do get a viewfinder attachment it won't be as good as looking through the EVF. Try getting close to the screen with a magnifying glass and you'll see the effect of a Loupe style attachment. You tend to see the pixel structure a lot more than in the EVF.

Here's the link to the Varavon. I wish they would hurry up

Here's my shoulder mount rig that I use and I pretty much use the EVF with this all the time. Only thing I'd like would be to be able to shift the camera across about an inch as I have to bend my head to look through the viewfinder

No u shouldn't , unless you are mounting big heavy lens on the camera. The GH2 EVF works well and using it stablizes u shots. Maybe if you can make it needs more comforatble eyecup.

That's a shag. Hadn't thought of that. I guess if you were run and gunning it would have to be a set up that negated the use of an HDMI monitor, I guess if you wanted to go light that you would do this anyway, but still an over sight on the part of Panasonic

all the best

Thanks Reggietelly and Deadfish, you guys have given me the exact feedback I was looking for.
Its good to see such a high quailty evf built into the GH2.
I dont plan on using an on camera monitor any time soon but thanks for that heads up too.

I think it really does the job. But after having using some of the new EVF's on the market, it's easier on my eyes. But having said that, the three-point stability I get from my specialised rig like this comes in very handy: The pistol grip configured underneath the GH2 also acts as a Super 8 - which incidentally is very ergonomical:

Nice. That rig is pretty close to what I plan to use myself.
What handgrip is that in the first picture?

It's made in Japan but I modified it to have a longer cable - therefore you can use it on larger rigs. PM you with a link

Oh I just realized it comes with a cable. If I remember correctly the cable goes into the same port as the mic.
That means it wouldnt work for me then...I want to be able to use a Videomic Pro on camera with my setup.
