I have copied the following post as I too have noticed this problem but there were no replies to it.

I've just purchased the B model after having used the A model during 2 years.
I'm a little bit disappointed by the new monitoring.
I find it less sharp on the B mod. than on the older one and more annoying is the fact that the EVF detail is not activated on the camera start up. I have to activate it manually on every start.
Does someone have a tip to activate it automaticaly?

The viewfinder DTL does indeed default to'Off' every time the camera is powered down. I don't think there is a solution to this in the menu but maybe someone with more experience could answer this. I have also noticed the difference in sharpness on the B model!
