EVERYTHING'S EVENTUAL: A Stephen King short story adaptation (Production Diary)

Hi J.P. and Chad,

any news on the trailer and the website? I just hope the computers didn't let you down again... Oh, is there a filmposter already?

Best,
Danny

I went and saw the trailer last night to make some adjustments. It is very close to being done. As for a poster, there isn't one yet but there are a couple people working on some ideas.

This looks fantastic!

If you don't mind, what was your budget for this?

By the way, I also friend requested you on Facebook. I'm down in Tucson! :)

The budget, as of now, is around $40,000. We are not too far from the finished product so hopefully you will be seeing it in festivals all over (and if all goes weel many more places after that haha!)

Awesome. Thanks!

Thanks for finding me on Facebook. I must have added the writer. Hopefully I'll be able to catch it if it screens down here in Tucson, or maybe I'll go up to Phoenix if you submit it to a festival there.

I really liked the rain scene and thought the locations of the airport and the library and hospital were awesome! I also like the push in on the older man's face near the end. I thought the opening sound could feel a bit more polished in the phone scene and maybe the lighting could be made slightly more moody overall but that is personal preference. -Matt

Matt-

Thanks for the comments! We may still tweak it here and there in the future and do full sound mixing and coloring (we just wanted to get something other than screen grabs up! :)

Glad you liked the locations! That was something we worked really hard on for this project. Glad you liked it and I hope you get the chance to see it in festivals!

I just watched the trailer, and I can't disagree with Matt above.... The rain scene looks awesome! Also, I think that the sound could be a little bit better, but maybe it will turn out differently once the movie is done and everybody's sitting in a big theater!

Also Chad, I've added you on Facebook. Hope to see you around!

Wow! Having finally worked out how to navigate around DVX I was taking a 5 minute break from writing and I came accross this unbelievably exciting thread! AN hour later and I'm now you're number one fan....

I love King, have read everything by him and this is just incredibly inspiring and awesome, I'm blown away by your whole adventure.

What have you guys done before? How long did it take you to write the script? How many drafts? Has Mr. King seen the trailer yet? Will I be able to see it in the UK - god dammit I hope so!

So glad to have stumbled upon this - will keep watching the updates and wish you all the best, it looks fantastic.

Thanks RedCat!

This project was my senior thesis for film school at Arizona State University so it was my first feature (directing/producing). It is one of Chad's first features to if I'm not mistaken (step in whenever you like Chad).

From outline to first draft it took us (chad wrote it and I help with some story stuff) about a month maybe 5 weeks. then we had 2 or 3 more drafts/tweaks that we worked on until December/January.

Has Mr. King seen the trailer yet?
I don't know, but i hope so. I have put up the trailer on his fan site that one of his assistants runs so I hope she has mentioned it to him. If he does see it I'll make sure to tell you guys!

Will I be able to see it in the UK - god dammit I hope so!
I hope so too! As you've read from the other posts, we are limited to festivals only. So hopefully we will be accepted in a lot of festivals (including London!)

Thanks for your excitement and support!

...What have you guys done before? How long did it take you to write the script? How many drafts? ...
This is the first feature that I have scribed that has lived long enough to see the light of production day. I had a pair of others that died in the latter stages of pre-production

and another pair that I optioned.

I spent over five months penning Eventual (those adaptations buggers are distinguished doozies). If memory serves, actual drafts numbered four or five...though there were major (time-consuming) evolutionary leaps between each said draft.

!!!update!!!

!!!UPDATE!!!

We just finished shooting the last bit of B-roll and 2nd unit pieces! Also finished all ADR for Dinky, Young Dinky and Young Pug! Next week we will tackle Sharpton's audio as well as bit rolls. The sound on this film is going to be awesome!

With the last of the picture shot we will now tweak the edit with the new footage and lock the project. We expect this to only take a few days, if we put our backs into it! After that it is all about sound, color, music and digital effects.

The new deadline for the project in Mid-August! At that time we will hopefully be able to present to Mr. King and impress him with the picture.

I think I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Final Picture Lock!

Final Picture Lock!

Hey Everyone,

Tonight we finished all editing of Everything's Eventual and locked the final version of the film!

We added a couple new scenes (that we shot over the weekend) and edited them into the picture. I am very pleased with how everything turned out for this, my first feature. Sound, score, digital effects and color correction should take only a few weeks and then the film is done!

I am very excited for taking this huge step in the production and I can't wait to screen it for all who made it possible!

JP
