every 4th frame is a jitter frame....

I have some 24fps clips that have a 'jitter frame' every 4th frame. These shots show lots of combing on these frames but none anywhere else.

Is this a result of the wrong cadence being used when the pulldown was removed?

How can I fix this?
Can (how do I) I convert this back to the original 29.97 capture and then redo this? Should I just skip every 4th frame?

I don't know how this footage was shot except that it was with a dvx. It was converted to photo-jpeg before I got it so there is no meta data to help me either.

This footage that is not what I was told I would get.... but that's another story... :-/

Re: every 4th frame is a jitter frame....

I've seen this in Premiere where the footage was captured with a non-MS DV codec (in my case, Canopus). Premiere was unable to interpret the footage properly. Saw a similiar issue where I captured a bunch of footage as one long clip but there was a small break in the original recording. It removed the pulldown correctly up to the break and then was messed up after that.

I can convert the Canopus DV files to MS and it fixes the problem. You may not be able to do this. You could also try recapturing the clips individually or otherwise make sure there are no breaks in the recording.

I was having the same problem last week, I posted the problem here, I got and excellent answer, it works... In case u can't find the post, here is what Neil answered me:

are you editing in a 24p timeline with 24pa footage?..

if you are, then what it does is detect the pulldown cadance from the first take/scene, and it continues that pulldown for the rest of the file.. so it can get way wacky if the cadace changes(which it does often between cuts).. plenty of people have requested that adobe make it a little more versetile, to detect cadance changes.. but you should request it to from the adobe web site .

so what i do is use scene detection, which automatically makes each cut its own seperate file.. and they will all pull down beautifully. and you can also trash all the bad cuts that you dont use to save drive space instead of keeping the big huge file from a tape that only about 5% is being used anyway.

so ..just use scene detection , and it will import all the cuts as seperate files.. you can save them all in their own little folder, and it imports them all into the project after capturing. it will name them sequentially after whatever name you give it.. or you can tell it to name them in any format sequentially that you choose. .. i never used to use it, but now that i have.. its really nice, and i dont know why i didnt always do it.. so much wasted drive space!!
