Noting is easy is it? I bought a used Lilliput on this site years ago to use wit my D7000 and it was a blue screen. Never worked. I sent it to Lilliput and their tried to upsell me on a newer monitor. Told me there was noting wrong with it.

This month, I laid out another $400 and bought a used Marshall V-LCD651STX on eBay. Before I made the purchase, I Googled it's specs, went to the Marshall site, saw some forum posts that gave me good reason to think Marshall would be safe.

I wanted to buy American. Sorry to all of you who are from China, but we need to help out our own once in a while too ;-)

Anyway, I get this thing and I buy some batteries as it has an Anton Bauer mount too. I am on Maui and have no store to 'see' things.

I own three Hytron 50s and a charger but they are in my NYC studio (stills), and so I figured I'd get some more just to have. I have never seen or touched a 100. I bought three, thinking they'd compliment the 50s. Well, they are gigantic! 5.5 lbs each!!

What a frigging nightmare. Now I have to rig up the batteries just to get the monitor to power up.

But to do that I have to buy a bloody power pinch. I just found one used here on this site, and it is coming.

Probably too flimsy for the weight of battery but I'm praying.

So, Marie (wife) and I are anxious to see if this thing will be the help we need to see better. We plug in the adapter, etc. Then turn it on.

What do I get? 480p!!!!

I have Googled and watched videos and have the owner's manual and everything read says it is 720p and the D800 I am using outputs HDMI 720p so what I am doing wrong is beyond me.

(Feel free to chime in if you know what is going on.)

Just seems like very fix I throw at video seems to bring another set of problems. Does it ever get easy?

Get a Sony L battery plate for your Marshall ( the type that takes Sony NP-F960 batteries ), where one battery will power your monitor for almost an entire day. These batteries weight about 12 oz.

You can buy generic NP-F960 batteries for about $40 each, so you can easily have enough power for a couple of days shooting without breaking the bank.

Wow. I was afraid I'd discover my ways were wayward. I followed what I thought was conventional wisdom and now have $2k in AB Hytrons that are basically paperweights, eh? Cool. No wonder so many people come here for therapy....

I'd just like to add that this afternoon, while the Lamb and I were practicing what we cannot seem to do anywhere at anytime (shoot well-lit video with good audio) I must confess that the Marshall showed me 1080p 30hz for about 10 seconds. Then it went and got weird and showed me 480p again, with all the D800 live view on-screen menus/displays. I could not get the 1080p back, but it did go to 720p after I powered up and down and all over a few times.....photo2-1080.jpg
