Ever any specials on the upgrades?

So I was interested in getting the Apollo upgrade for my Odyssey 7Q+ until I saw the price. I am not one to make a fuss about prices generally. I have learned you get what you pay for and I will always prefer the pricier quality product that won't burn me in the field.

However, $1,795 for the Apollo upgrade doesn't seem very competitive, at least from the perspective of someone who just needs to record multiple streams and not necessarily broadcast/switch them live. That's the same price as the monitor itself! I just wanted to record 4K prores from my FS700 and A7s simultaneously, but it makes more sense for me to just get a Blackmagic 4K video assist at $895 for the A7s. That's slightly less than half the price of the upgrade.

I would love to not have to get a second monitor but I just can't justify the price for the Apollo option. Does Convergent Design ever run any specials on these upgrades, or are they set in stone?

The Apollo option won't let you record 4K from both the FS700 and the A7S anyway. Apollo option only accepts video feeds, not raw data, which is the only way to get 4K out of the FS700...

Brad, I would advise against the Blackmagic 4K recorder. A TV show I work for bought it, and it does not to DNxHD/HR as advertised. It also introduces a nasty hiss to the audio, and the battery life is bad. Also hard to see in the sunlight.

There are some other advantages to recording multiple signals on a single recorder, even excluding the Live-Switch function. Matching timecode & filenames is a big headache-preventer for post, and functions such as AV ALIGN keeps cameras with varying latency in proper sync. It can represent an enormous time savings in post.

Dmitri is correct. Apollo only functions with video signals, not with signals derived from RAW. It cannot utilize the RAW output of the FS700.
