From the director of Mortal Combat, Resident Evil and Death Race... a movie that cost $50 million to make and pulled in a whopping $26 mil: EVENT HORIZON

This is one of my all time sci-fi horror favourites. An eerie story which takes place in outer space about a crew who boards a lost space ship that managed to go to hell and back!

Anyone else remember this film or watch it lately? I just bought the DVD two-disc set and enjoying it all over again.

Yeah surprisingly great film. Loved it when it came out and saw the second half just recently on TV. Sam Neil is fantastically creepy, and generally just a solid scifi-horror.

I've enjoyed it. I have the DVD at home and I've watched it a couple times.
Most probably one if not the best Paul W.S. Anderson movies.

Loved this, saw it at the cinema, I've got it on Bluray (probably got the DVD as well).

I didn't realise it hadn't done so well at the box office, such a shame.

I saw this in the cinema, it was visually stunning and quite scary too.

I put this up there with Sunshine (Danny Boyle) and The Fountain (Darren Aronofsky) as underrated movie that really had to be seen on the big screen to appreciate them. All 3 movies lacked the visual (and audio) experience when watched on DVD.

This is the only horror movie that I refused to watch twice. I saw it in theaters when it came out. The sh#t was so damn scary. Mind you I've seen all the horror movies that there is to see, but for some reason this is the one that scared me the most.

Needless to say I loved the film. I wish I had the guts to watch it again.

It's easier to watch at home as at least you can hide behind the sofa.

The film is also worthy of some extra Kudos for having a decent Prodigy track on the adverts and the end title music.

I loved this in the theater as a teenager. I remember having to comfort my girlfriend who was sobbing hysterically coming out of the movie. Nice to know it holds up....especially considering it's director.

I think for the "era" this was made in (damn it seems like yesterday so it can only mean I'm getting old) it is an amazing film.

In the original script the space ship was suppose to be haunted by aliens, not evil hell itself. So when Paul was asked to direct the film he conditionally accepted if he could change the antagonist from aliens to ghosts of hell.

On the second DVD disc Paul also explained how shooting the film on such an elaborate set combined with elaborate customs was so gruelling and difficult that they literally shot and cut many scenes in advance using scaled down miniature sets with figures. They would figure out exactly what angles to shoot and minimize their shooting ration once on-set with the actors. (mostly the scenes where they wear space suits, etc..)

Very creepy movie.

And it all went downhill from there for Mr. Anderson. (Except for the part where he married Milla Jovovich.)

What I enjoy most about Event Horizon is that the survivors are side characters! It really surprised me when I saw it in theatre. Usually the scrubs die first.

I liked it. Saw it in the theater opening night with a friend of mine. As we walked out of the multiplex, in the distance there was a wicked lightning storm brewing. It was perfect timing as it was very reminiscent of the storms in the atmosphere of Neptune that featured in the film. It was kinda eerie and really made it an even more rememberable film for me.

Yeah, what the hell happened? His first film Shopping was fun. Mortal Kombat was very cheesy but not too bad for being a video game movie circa 1995. Even Soldier was kinda fun B-grade sci-fi/action. Then he tried to do Alien vs. Predator. Event Horizon felt more like a proper Alien movie than anything in AvP.

During the past holidays I was home alone one night with nothing to do, and caught his recent Three Musketeers movie on cable. It put me to sleep. It felt so... sterile for some reason. I looked like it was shot digitally, but in the most clean and bland manner.

I do, loved this movie one of the few movies I watched mutliple times as in the same week. The art direction was great to.
Never knew it bombed at BO. Im still mortified by the idea that hell is out there.

Yes this ship went to hell and back, so think TWICE about boarding an unknown vessel next time you're in space!

If you guys liked EVENT HORIZON then be sure to watch SPHERE (1998) with Dustin Hoffman and Samuel Jackson... almost a rip-off and quite identical to Event Horizon except it takes place underwater instead of space.

Let me know if you've seen SPHERE and if you feel the two films compare!

'Event Horizon' was itself a sort of rip-off of a movie about a ship haunted by Nazi ghosts; 'Death Ship' (1980). A mostly silly B movie that had a number of genuinely creepy scenes.

I have seen sphere to . It started out great but It turned out very meh . Maybe it was the story but the whole confusion what is real or isnt always gets me out of a film. ( Inception did do a better job at this ofc years later ) Or perhaps the actors who are better known for much more "real" present day movies didnt help the scifi much imo.

Good to know
