EVA1 with Inferno 5.7 RAW

Hi - I can find very little info about actual work flow and drive specification for 5.7K workflow.

I can find 4K info but nothing else. (and final cut but not premiere.)

so has anyone take 5.7K from the EVA1 to Premiere? Issues? Drive specs / issues? Do I need the expensive Angelbirds?

I presume 4K is a crop from the 5.7K.

Cheers,

A drive that is specced by Atomos for 4K60p RAW can handle 5.7K30p. They are about the same data rate.

5.7K is the full sensor.
4K is a pixel-to-pixel crop, about 75% the size of S-35.
2K is the same sensor size as 4K, using a complex math mixing to downsample the resolution.

The EVA1 does ProResRAW only not cDNG. Your only options are FCPX or latest version of EDIUS.
Neither Premiere nor Resolve is able to read those files.
There's a workflow tutorial video on Youtube from Colin Elves.
I haven't watched it but on the EVA1 FB group it is rated as helpful.

Well, strictly speaking that's not true. The EVA1 outputs a raw signal. That raw signal can be recorded in multiple ways, depending on what the recorder supports. A recorder could certainly record the EVA1's signal in cDNG, or ProRes RAW, or RedCode, or bRAW, or Canon Raw Lite, or whatever the recorder is programmed to support. The signal the EVA1 outputs is pure raw, it's up to the recorder to decide how to record it.

So if the Atomos only supports ProRes RAW, that's a limitation of the Atomos, not the EVA1. Not that it really matters, as a practical matter if you're recording from the EVA1, you're probably using the Atomos, so in the real world I guess the distinction doesn't matter much.

I should have added: with the Shogun Inferno the EVA1 does ProResRAW only not cDNG

To my knowledge there is no recorder that captures the EVA1 signal and converts into cDNG. If we want to continue split hairs :D: the Inferno supports cDNG as well but. It does for VaricamLT, FS700, FS-5, FS-7, FS-7MkII, C300MKII/C500 CDNG but not for the EVA1.

That's not correct, the Inferno supports Cinema DNG from the EVA1.

It supportes 4k/24 and 4k/30 and 2k in DNG from the EVA1.

You only are forced to go to ProRes RAW for 5.7k or for 4k/60.

OK. you won :) and I learnt something. It didn't come to my mind to record 4K 30p in RAW. I always (rarely) used in open gate 5.7k. The TO asked for 5.7k also.
Thanks for clarification.

BTW, Blackmagic Design has announced that its new 12G HDR Video Assists, available in 5" and 7" models, will get a free firmware update to support EVA1 RAW recording in Blackmagic Design RAW formats. I don't have a release date for this but it is supposed to support up to 5.7K30, 4K60p and 2K240p, meaning everything the EVA1 can output.

As always: I highly recommend not buying anything before the features because you want it are implemented. I learned this lesson on a hard way with the 7Q from convergent design

Thanks everyone.

So does anyone have any 5.7 ProRes Raw files (links) - and has anyone took it into Premiere? Is there Meta-data for the raw like Red's source panel?

Just done some work for Discovery with the EVA1 / GH5 B camera in VLOG 10bit 4:2:2 with primes - it looked great.

I just want to access the RAW and the inferno has come right down in price.

Thanks everyone.

as mentioned above:
the only editing programs that can handle ProRes Raw are FCPX and Edius.
There is no way to import them directly into Premiere neither in Resolve.

Thanks for that. I've completely missed that info.

Happy to work with Edius though until / if Adobe fix this.

Excellent.
Excuse my ignorance here: I am very interested in the 5" BM model, but...
- I believe that when recording with the 5" BM monitor, the EVA 1 cannot record internally at the same time. So... since this monitor has no XLR inputs, can sound still be recorded through the EVA 1 (by using the camera's xlrs inputs)? I assume the answer is no, as BRAW can only be recorded through SDI (only video signal?) and not hdmi.

thanks

Just got responded to this question in another forum; it appears that the audio is also ouput through the SDI signal from EVA1.

Just purchased the BM VA 12G for Raw with the EVA-1. Initial tests - it works well. Premiere implementations seems a bit lumpy but trying a different BRAW plug in.

Not sure how much I will actually use raw over the 4:2:2 400Mbps

Query. I know the raw is unprocessed does that mean the NR in camera is by-passed as it still seems to be highlighted ...

The Premiere Pro ProRes RAW Support is sketchy. It currently has a requirement for an NVidia CUDA card to work. So I bought an NVidia Tesla K20 compute card with no video outputs, and installed alongside my professional AMD Vega Frontier Edition card. Although this is a valid hardware configuration under Win 10, it still did not work with Premiere Pro. I was just about to purchase a cheap dedicated NVidia graphics card, to replace both my other cards, when I found out that AMD GPU support for ProRes RAW is coming in the Premiere Pro Beta. Unfortunately, the Beta that this is supposed to be included in hasn't been released yet.

I shoot on the Panasonic S1H and record ProRes RAW 5.9K out to the Ninja V.
