EVA1 Simultaneous use of HDMI + SDI outputs

Hallo,

Can the EVA1's HDMI + SDI outputs be used simultaneously? Hypothetically with the SDI going to an Atomos recorder and the HDMI to a Teradek, sending the signal to a monitor?

All the best

Yes. I will have to check but I think that when using SDI raw output, the HDMI is limited to 1080p, but other than that they are always both available.

Fantastic!

So what my issue is that apparently the Atomos cannot output to another monitor, which leaves us in a predicament as we'll need to output to a separate director's monitor, feed by a wireless signal sent/received by a wireless video system (like THIS one for example). The fact we can't output any further from the Atomos, and the EVA1 only having 1 SDI Out makes it quite tricky to use multiple monitors but...

If we were output RAW to our Atomos recorder via the SDI (as intended) AND simultaneously to our wireless transmitter via the HDMI sending the signal to a receiver > monitor, in practice would this work?

All the best

Sounds to me like it would work, but I haven't tried it... Hopefully one of our EVA users with an Inferno can verify it for you.

If we record the SDI output as 5.7k CDNG RAW on the Atomos recorder, what will we see on the HDMI wirelessly-fed monitor? Am I right in saying the HDMI feed will display the full 5.7k RAW signal also?

I'm trying to understand what I'll need to do to get the director's monitor displaying a video image that has 2.39:1 guides like I'll have on my Atomos camera monitor.

No, it'll be a 1080p video signal.

Turn on the 2.39 guides on your LCD, and set the HDMI to mirror the LCD. I would think that would do it.

I do not believe that Atomos will support 5.7K RAW in CinemaDNG. This would require more data than a SATA connection bus will allow to the recorder's SSD. It's not a question of the recorder's or the SSD's capability, but instead a limitation of the spec for data rate through a SATA port. Atomos will support 5.7K RAW in ProRes RAW HQ and ProRes RAW.

When outputting 5.7K RAW over SDI, the HDMI output will show a downrezzed 1080p image, meaning that the full 5.7K field of view will be presented in a 1920x1080 signal. Since 5.7K RAW is actually a 17x9 DCI frame, the image is slightly letterboxed (small black boarders on the top & bottom of frame) so that no part of the picture is obscured. If you wish to display viewfinder information such as frame rate, lens settings, etc., this will be shown on the black borders so as not to block the image. The HDMI image can be sent in V-Log or with a Rec709 monitoring LUT applied.

For Frameline guides, multiple markers are available as overlays to the HDMI output (as well as the SDI output if you were in video mode and wanted this). 2.39 is a standard setting and there are a variety of colors available in the menu.

The EVA1 output selection is quite powerful, and no additional boxes are necessary to view the signal the way you wish.
