EVA1 Firmware question

I haven't upgraded because I've been on a job and didn't want to take the chance. However now I want to, but the instructions say to plug the camera into the power supply. Because I've never used it I've misplaced it somewhere and can't find it.

Can I perform the upgrade using the large battery (not the small one that came with the camera)?

Many cameras have always recommended using a power supply during an upgrade, but many also state a fully charged battery is okay too. You just don't want to lose power during the update as it could brick the camera.

I don't know if the EVA1 absolutely needs the power supply, so you should probably ask Panasonic directly to be safe (or Mitch might be able to tell you).

Or I guess another EVA1 owner who has used a battery.

Also, some devices can detect if they are connected to an external PS and won't allow a firmware/software update to start if they aren't connected.

I used a fully charged battery to go from v1.10 to 1.12, so that works. The firmware update is relatively quick and painless, but yeah, I would only use one fresh off the charger. Also, the AC power supply for the camera is in all likelihood plugged into your battery charger right now, so go ahead and use that.

I did the same thing with the AF100, only I was looking for the battery charger and could not find it. Finally did, it was on the floor next to the camera, powering the camera. While having one power supply do both saves money and bits to lug around, it is a pain if you want to charge the battery and run the camera off the mains. I ended up getting a second battery charger/power supply bit. Problem solved!

I'm always either handheld or on a tripod away from power, so I've never used the mains on any camera. It was stupid of me not to remember, or imagine, that they combined the two into a single string... Now I'll remember...

So do I Mac, but this was a Studio green screen shoot we did weekly, and mains powe was readily available. How quick we become creatures of habit! Have a grand week.
Cheers
