Hey guys.
My colleague and I are in the middle of producing education videos for a school that you have to attend if you want to work inside the sucurity sector. It's a collaberation between Norway and Sweeden so we flew down to Sweeden to shoot this, which was a lot of fun and the whole project is very exciting.
The different video parts are to be used in class to illustrate and create debates around ethical behaviour within the security line of work. This clip is a rough cut of one of the "ethics" parts on the use of physic force. It's not much dialouge, and it's in sweedish. But in short words, it's about a mobile security guard who gets a call about a break in, and he goes to secure him with a backup car until he calls for police.
Would highly appreciate some feedback.

Shot with my dvx-100 and sgpro rev.2.
Lenses used: pentax 50mm f.1.2, and 28mm f.2.8.
Length: 1 min. h.264. 10mb.

Wow. How did you export to get such a small file.

That was great! Such nice cinematography.

You might want to try and work on those reds, in the car. A bit blocky.

Good job otherwise

Thanks guys.

thecomo: That red pin on the speedometer really annoys me!(as well as everything red I shoot with my cam). Do you know any tricks on how I can make it less blocky?
I always export my h.264 files by opening my DV-avi file in quicktime player and I then export it from there as a h.264 file were I set the quality bar to "high"(75), and with ACC sound 128kbs 48000 khz.

We used a sennheiser me-66 microphone, and I was really worried about the sound recordings on this one cause we only had like an hour to shoot this because heavy duty rain and bad weather was present that day, so we didnt have much time to focus on sound. There was also a lot of big trucks moving in the area which also created some headache, but luckily I could work it out in post.

Thanks again :)

Export settings! lol

Well you can desaturate the clip, but it already looks like you did that. And it might change the color/mood/tone of your video. Grab the three way color corrector, and then bring down the drop down. Grab the eye dropper and select the red, and desaturate THAT only. For a link on the tutorial, PM me, its by Captain Mench

Yup yup... looks great.

and off topic: are you originally from Norway? your english/grammar is always spot on... even more so than a lot of us over here in the U.S. ;)

Ive been waiting to see some more narrative oriented stuff from you, and I'm not disapointed. The videos you post are always a pleasure to watch and are one big 'commercial' for making everyone want to buy an SGpro. But this one has some more narrative and it's great, nice editing. The fact that it rained actually adds to the mood I think. It kind of has that feel like in an Inspector Morse/Maigret/detective-thing series. Good work!

I hope my employers will like it as much as you :)
It's always nice shooting when its cloudy, gives that grey and soft look, which I think fits this piece since we were shooting in a kind of industrial area. And you dont have to worry so much about over exposed areas as when you shoot in bright sunlight.

rcbrown: I have lived my whole life in Norway, except for a year when I studied in Denmark(were we spoke english because it was an international school) . Funny you should comment on my grammar, since I flunk english in school :)
But every norwegian is taught english from early on and most of the tv series and films we watch comes from the US. Norway is basicly US-wannabe, and it's also said that every norwegian has an uncle in America :)

Thanks guys!

Smettli, you've done "it" again, and you know what? You also added some whipped cream, chocolate sauce and some cherry on top..
But seriously; this clip shows me, that you don't actually need a $250k camera to make good looking movie. I mean.. This beats alot of movies I've seen that have been shot on Arriflex and Panavision cameras.. I dead serious about that..

Great work, lovely colors (besides the red which I hate, I'm sorry), great editing and great sound..

Make a full length movie...

SGpro... a few more days.. it should be coming soon...

and I think a lot of people in the US think they're Norwegian, but I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say that probably 75% only are like 1/12th norwegian.. :P

Good work!

I think you made it clear in terms of the Ethics. Actors where doing great also, especially the robber :) But its always scarry with overdone violence.
But sound, editing including slowmo, and colour looked nice and cool (as in minus temperature) which fitted good.

Verkligen snyggt!

one thing I also have to say is:
This reminded me a lot of macgregors work.. which "should be"/is a huge compliment..

Wow, I didnt expect so much positive feedback, really boost my confidence before delievering the final product to the boss. Thanks guys!
It was a rushed shoot with one behind the camera and one on the boom mic, and we were very lucky to get such positive and willingly people to do the acting(they didn't have any acting background, they were security personelle which worked in the building were we shot it). And the robber were the security guards' boss :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
It's so nice coming home from a shoot when everyone you have been in contact with were very friendly and helpful, creds to the security guys.
The sweedes rock! :)
Tommetass: The sgpro will make your day.

Thanks again!

Timur: I'm 23 going on 24 in 13 days :) Thanks for the compliment! I would like to think of dvxuser.com a my mentor, as I guess a lot of us do
