Eternal Sunshine Effect?

Wow. Good question. I'd imagine lots of keyframing. I can create the part with the squares and the movement of the "multiple boxes together" and the different angles of the guy. The only thing I have trouble with is the fading in and out of the individual boxes during the transition from black. I can tell you how to do this via keyframing but it would take a long time. I'd imagine that using Motion would be easier somehow....
 
Unless you can find a motion preset or understand scripting in Shake, this is a lot of work. But so is everything that looks way cool :)
 
Yeah it's called us motion graphics designers actually do many hours of work. ;)

You could probably set up some multipurpose masks and just tile them out and bind different video to them. Render will be a lot of fun... unless you're running motion but you'd still need a raid to deliver all the different chunks of video.

Yeah, it's a simple but time consuming effect.
