Wow, Sage, I've been looking forward to this ever since you posted those images in another thread. Did you use anamorphic lenses, adapter, or did you crop in post? Also, is this a teaser for a longer work? Because I'd love to see more.

Thank you vcassel, stoneinapond, and ihartvideo -
It was not anamorphic - I think 1.33 anamorph is a neat way to go, but I'd only consider it if I had access to Hawks (I don't like that bokeh too much). Otherwise, prime glass with no add ons will give a better result, and vertical re-framing is a huge advantage.
It was exacting in the 2.39 framing, with a screen matte. It isn't for a longer work, but indeed a long story is on the way. It was inspired by a puddle and Nietzsche's idea of eternal return, in which everything repeats infinitely (also: the recent multi-verse theories in physics).

As to handling, every shot was done with the tripod - just about any motion can be accomplished with a good tripod used in different ways.

Thanks Jesse - its the ultimate stabilization device. I prefer it over all else! (I use the Velbon 607 for its ideal weight/performance ratio)

OK. Thanks for the information. It took several more looks (well worth it) but I think I'm beginning to understanding what you are doing. I have the same tripod. Great value for a low cost tripod. It's inspired me to try to be more creative with the sticks when the opportunity presents itself.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Sage, by chance have you ever read the book When Nietzsche Wept? It deals quite a bit with eternal recurrence and its psychological factors.

Very nice. One of the best pieces I've seen here.
Thank you Francesco!

Thank you, I hope to bring everything to bear in my next story. The tripod can be used in 2 core ways - floating or two legged pivot. I usually only float, but great dolly/jib shots can be done two legged.

I haven't, I've heard the title often. It sounds like a great book, I think I'll pick it up. A while ago an old woman talked about the idea and it left an impression in my head; a lot of what she talked about has stayed with me.

I really love the look of this piece. Draws you right in. It seems that the Gh2 has quite a few different looks up its sleeve.Who would have believed a couple of years ago that we would be seeing images like this out a consumer dslr. I keep coming back to check it out again and again. Excellent job!

Thank you for a very nice compliment EWS.
(I keep having to steal myself that thats not film grain I'm seeing)

This video got me pumped prior to doing my first GH2 shoot. My favorite for its tonal/texture qualities.

Thanks Jon

Roei - I wouldn't use it for a whole feature; for example sync sound requires 24fps. 80% is nice for smooth touch, as a commentary on a scene or moment.
60fps lets you go 40% and 80%, but there is a little resolution loss. When I really want variable speed options, I'll shoot that (twixtor w/ 60 allows for sync). 80% for some nice non-sync moments.

Nice Imagery.... nietzsche eventually went mad and lived the last part of his life in a catatonic state... His sister would exploit him at carnivals and make him do absurd things to make some cash..... Just thought I'd share that....
