ETC crop mode in GH13, possible??

Hi,

Today I was testing a Canon B4 lens (without proper adaptor yet :( ) and thinked about crop mode existence in PTools patch. In theory, a 1080 crop in this sensor gets a x2,33 magnification, which it's even better to this lenses than x2,6 in GH2 ETC mode. Is it possible to enable this mode on GH1?? I've tried 2x Digital Zoom and it seem fine, but I only tested it on a cheap laptop, so do you think is this mode usable???

Thanks for watching

The ETC crop does not work in video mode on the GH1 or GF1. However, it does work on the G2, giving you 3X magnification with no decrease in f-stop.

It'll be interesting to compare sensor setup routines on GF1 and G2.
As far as I remember, for me they looked almost identical.

GH1 doesn't have an ETC like GH2 (as I know), but its Digital Zoom feature works on video (at least on my GH1 patched with your "44Mbit reliable patch"). My doubt is about differences in terms of quality because processing in camera. I've tried to record some videos in this mode, but I only watched them on a laptop screen, although they seem fine compared with others without Digital Zoom enabled. I have to try it in other scenarios and find a good TFT screen to watch them, but in your opinion is this mode usable?

P.S.: sorry about my english, I feel somethings I said could be interpret in wrong way :).

The GH1 1 does have an ETC function that works off the sensor crop but it is only available in photo mode page 55, 56 in the manual.

Extended Optical Zoom mechanism
Example: When it is set to [ ] (equal to 3.1 million pixels), it will take the picture using
the 3.1 million pixels in the center out of the 12 million pixels of the imaging device,
resulting to be more of a telephoto picture.
Note

“EZ” is an abbreviation of “Extended optical Zoom”.
If you use the zoom function after focusing on the subject, focus on the subject again.

The Extended Optical Zoom cannot be used in the following cases.

- In Intelligent Auto Mode

- In Creative Motion Picture Mode

- When recording motion pictures

Well, now we now GH1 has EZ.MODE disabled in video mode, but then I'm talking about DIGITAL ZOOM feature, which is documented too in pages you said and can be used in video mode. There are three types of zoom: Optical zoom (well know :P), EZ. ZOOM (a photo version of ETC crop mode?) and DIGITAL ZOOM.

About last one, it seems a type of interpolation. In theory, a 2X crop gives a 2176x1226 which is sighly bigger than FullHD, so if D.ZOOM uses this resolution in 2X zoom mode to interpolate to final output, in case of video, this interpolation only "remove" some pixels and not adds some "invented pixels" like in bigger resolution output (in photo mode). In this case, I'd like to know your opinion in terms of quality about this "D.ZOOM 2X" if you test it.

I tested it a while back, and all that it gives is a crappy image, see for yourself:

i concur, ETC is really the way forward, it's perfect unlike digital zoom. i dream of the day when this is possible with the GF1 (beg and grovel) :D
