essential D90 tips and whatnot...

Just scooped up a D90, my first DSLR. Pretty excited. I found two tips thus far that are pretty essential and I'm wanting to know if there are any more I'm missing.

- the MPEG streamclip / TMTS FCP plug in that severely improves stair stepping and the cruddy Nikon compression

and

- setting the AE-L to hold before shooting vids (to prevent that annoying exposure jumping madness)

For right now I'm just using the kit lens, soon to be upgrading though. Any other advice/pointers? And yes I did read the Kholi's sticky at the top of the page. Mainly just looking for other users personal tricks of the trade that they've found just from shooting and shooting and more shooting.

thanks in adv.

Is it possible to have the cheat sheet in french? I'm having difficulties to understand the meaning of: 2 -Stop lens down all the way.

Hello. "Stop lens down all the way" = turn the aperture ring on your lens until it is the darkest (e.g. f/16 not f/1.4 on a 50mm Nikon lens). The word "stop" is used because the aperture blades can not close any smaller, they must stop.

Good luck.

Thank You DanDOF.

I have a nikon lens AF-S 18-55mm VR lens with my d5000. Maybe i don't have to do this kind of trick?

My most important tip, is if you're going to shoot handheld, make the camera heavy. Yeah it might not work if you're out and about, but if you're shooting a project, just hold it handheld with your tripod head or highhat still attached to it. It might sound stupid and clunky, but its the only way I figured out to do heavy handheld shots and not get the rolling shutter wiggle.

Hmmm, that's weird, because i thought it was the acronym for Standard Terminal Orifice Petal.
