Essential Camera Gear

Hey I was wondering what other people would consider essential camera gear. What are the essentials that you always carry in your camera kit. lets have some discussion on this.

lets start with the obvious:
a tripod
a tape/memory card
extra batteries
microphone
lights
and last but not least...

a plan

As a wildlife photographer I try to keep my kit as light as possible as I sometimes walk for many miles over rough terrain.
What I always carry are several polythene dustbin liner bags. Cut a hole in the top to make
a rain coat for me, cut a hole and tape round the lens hood to make a raincoat for the camera which is long enough to cover the tripod,If you use clear bags you can operate the camera through the bag. Use as a ground sheet, fill with straw to make a seat. They weigh nothing and take up little room in my bag.

I have my Sony MDR-7506 headphones everywhere I go, but I do have a low-cost pair of wraparound headphones in my camera bag, just in case.

A good white balance card is a must. Also, a Roscolux swatchbook is wonderfully useful for white balance tricks. Pull out the CTO swatch to cool-balance, or the CTB swatched to warm balance. You can find them cheap or free, and they're very small.

Don't forget the lens cleaner and lens chamois.

And a steno book and pen, plus a fine-point sharpie.
