Essential Accessories for DVX100b

Hi All,

I am going to buy a Panasonic DVX100b this week and would like any suggestions for essential accessories. I don't have any immediate projects, and will basically be spending a few weeks shooting just to get to know the camera. I do know that I need an on camera light and a soft case when I buy it. Any suggestions for brands? Also, which tapes do you use in your DVX100b?

Ok, so if there are any accessories you think are essential, please respond here. I will be using the camera for film shorts mainly and filming events.

Thanks! I am so excited.

on camera light - vidled
soft case - I have a KATA backpack I enjoy thoroughly (hb-207)
essential (at least they are for me):
tripod
light kit
uv filter
lens cleaning cloth
spare batteries
dolgin 2 or 4 place charger
MultiRig Pro (I use this way more than I thought I would)
Off the top of my head thats the only essential stuff I can think of for the camera.
For Audio it would be impossible to list essentials without knowing specifics of what you are doing but here's a rough outline - shotgun mic for exteriors, hyper for interiors, a couple of g2 wireless kits, decent mics for the g2's, a boom, shockmount, wind protection for your mics, mixer, bag to carry it all in, and someone to run it, oh and a bunch of cables.

Cases for everything too.

would also get a dv tape rewinder and cheap capture cam to put less wear on your heads with - I have an HVX so I dont have either of those.

Most importantly, thats my essential list and I sure didnt start out operating with all of these things and some are just on my list to be purchased (alot of the audio gear) but are being purchased because they are essential to work thats coming up soon. I've seen some great stuff shot handheld with the onboard mic (AshG's Hanson documentary I cant remember the name of comes to mind), and theres some great stuff shot with several trucks worth of equipment too and more. I'd look hard at what you are doing exactly and then do some searching and see what people are doing with what equipment. Do you need a dolly? Maybe, I dont... yet. I dont need a jib arm either but alot of people use one regularly. So have fun and watch your budget. Happy shooting!

Oh and I believe most people use either the AMQ or PQ panny tapes.

doh i forgot the most important part!!! That should required before buying the camera - here read this and take a test over it, then you can buy the camera.

I use a small soft drink cooler as my camera bag, works great. I think apart from your light and bag you should invest in a tripod, and then a good microphone. A shotgun will probably be your best bet.

Thanks Reaktor,

Today I'm getting my UV filter, a case (not sure which one - will decide when I get to B & H), an on camera light, a cleaning tape and perhaps another CGA-D54 battery.

I have a tripod and I want to do some shooting before I decide which boom mic to get.

I'm soooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
