ESPN March Madness Spoof

Good stuff man, funny.

You shot w/ DVX and probably compositied w/ AE. How did you key? Green screen? no gs, roto? Primatte? or just AE?

The DVX is notorious for not keying well, so I've never even tried. Aside from the transparent ghosting on Rick Pitino's suit, your footage looked great.

oh yea, the graphics were really good too.

good job.

Thank you for checking it out, guys.

chstick: We used chroma green fabric (pulled extra tight) and some basic DV lights with magenta gels. The magenta helped a ton.

For compositing everything, I built everything in Pshop first at about twice the size of DV Widescreen and imported it in AE. I find that the best chroma keyer (at least for my green screen setup) is KeyLight within AE. It doesn't do well with greys unfortunately (like on Pitino's suit), but for everything else it is extremely fast, efficient, and impressive for DV keying.

You should try it out if you get the chance!

One more thing that helps me out a lot is to apply a color smoothing filter on your raw footage in Final Cut on a ProRes timeline. Don't render it, but export it as a Quicktime Conversion with "None" selected for codec and Millions of Colors+ as the color setting.

Hope this helps!
