Error: Unplayable Tape

I tried to playback to check out a shot and the image was all broken up and consisted of what I recorded and where I had the camera pointed when I switched it into VTR mode. I then got an error which said "Unplayable tape (wrong format)". I then ejected the tape, and played it agani, this time the image was quite a bit broken up but no error display.

I'm been feeling very upset with this camera. It seems that I have one problem after another, and its brand new. The best panasonic will offer is to have it serviced. Which is poor customer service. Its brand new, and because they made a faulty camera I'm stuck with it? After spending all that money! I'm almost ready to switch to the XL. just kidding, but does anyone else have regular issues?

Video hits.
Red X
Playback issues.

I shouldn't have dirty heads so soon!

While it is unusual to have a head issue this early, from the description of the problem, that is exactly what you have. Don't be too quick to blame the camera either. All it takes is one bad tape and this, or any camera could have been effected. Take up Panasonic's offer to have it serviced as it will likely resolve the issues you are having.

You're right. I shouldn't blame the camera, I'm just frustrated that I spend the cash and have to deal with this crap on a new camera.

After you have your camera serviced and should it turn out that the problem was a dirty head issue, then consider what may have lead to this situation.

Do you use old tapes?

Do you reuse tapes?

Do you mix tapes of different lubrication types?

Any of the above could explain what occurred and may give you a clue how to avoid the problem in the future.

at first, i used a fuji tape or two. and did record over about an hours worth of footage i shot with this camera and decided to re use. i then switched to panasonic lower grade, and then up to to the MQ. I'll get it serviced, and see what happens.

thanks!
