Error " Tape Reel Lock"

What doe the above error mean? I was shooting a wedding yesterday, and when I changed tapes. I put a new one in, the image on screen went blank and then a solid blue screen, with this error. I turned it off, and was able to tape for maybe 5 seconds, and would do it again. After turning it off, then back on about 3 times, it was okay..

Maybe your tape was locked, you know the small switch near the cassette label? But if that was the case you shouldn't be able to tape it at all. Check it is set to rec and not to save.

I had this happen to me (except on the HVX) last night during a live shoot...put in a new tape, hit record, and then....red flashing error message as the show went on without me.

I ejected the tape, checked the lock switch, put it back in, and the same thing.

For some reason, the 3rd time I did this it finally went. All in all, I missed about 2 minutes of a 20 minute show. The clients were rightfully pissed and I looked like a stupid kid with a camera I didn't know how to use.

Anyone else having this problem?

Guess I should always just shoot on P2, even in SD....

I realize this is probably a tape error/malfunction and not a problem with the camera, but in this case, the tape was fine and fully in tact...

The manual says to check the tape because it may have snapped. So it sounds like the transport motors are not liking something about the tape. What kind of tapes are you using?
