Error messages on F3

I got this error message:
E-31001
Does anyone know what it could be?

I also have had some problem with the camera turning itself off at a couple of times and then when I try to turn it on again, the green lamp beside the on/off swtch just blinks.
Tried to change battery, without any difference.

I let it rest for a while, and then it worked well a while.

Until I realized that the camera turned itself into standby when I was recording.
I kept an extra eye on the rec symbol, and saw It step randomly between rec & standby. When I pressed the rec/stndby It responded, but I could not trust that it would continue to record.

The camera has the latest software. (today 17.1.2012)
The camera was set in 1920HQ, PAL, switched between 25P 1920, and 1280 25P overcranked to 50P.
The problem occured in both 25P & 50P.

Anyone recognize this problem?

Don't know what that specific code means, but when a camera throws error codes like that, it's got to go to Sony for repairs.
 
Try replacing the CR2032 internal battery. Give it a good 30 seconds or more, to ex-spell any capacitor voltage, then change. Power up. Reset all to factory. About close as you can get to a fresh start, without access to service menu...

If JD's tip didn't fix it; I don't know if this will help at all, but these cameras have a pretty powerful computer in them. On a computer 31001 means out of memory. The E in E-31001 just means its an error message.

First I'd swap out your recording media. If that doesn't do it the computer inside might have a bad memory chip. A trip to the Sony service center may be in your future.
