I am using the expensive sony memory cards too. This is the second time! Sony said the only reason it would do this is the card is not all the way in...I checked....ya it's in as far as it can go.

I always format using the camera, never my computer.

I don't think this is an "error". This happens to me all the time, I just hit execute each time and all is well. It happens when I start up my camera.

Well, I had this error once right in the middle of filming. I was like 10 minutes into it and it gave me the error. CANT have that happen at a wedding. Wouldn't be good.

I've seen it when the power supply is interrupted. Make sure the plug or the battery isn't loose or isn't being jiggled. If you're using a battery check the contacts. Try a different power source or power cord if you can.

A cable pinched one time can have separated strands internally causing intermittent faults. The same with bad battery contacts. Intermittent power faults are horrible to track down and often best cured by replacing all cables at once rather than one at a time.

Ahh... well that's different if it happens 'during' a shoot when the camera's been on the whole time. I just get this sometimes when I first turn on my camera after inserting a card but never after that.

I've only seen this error after writing files to my card on a PC and then inserting it back into the camera. I've never seen this error if I only use XDCam Clip Browser to transfer files to my PC. Windows writes a Thumbs.db file back to any media that has video or photo images on it, when you do file transfers with Explorer. That corrupts the card. But in-camera, I've not had any issues like this.

Don't mean to hijack this thread... but couldn't you avoid this by switching the write-protect tab before inserting the card in your Windows machine?
