Error installing Avid

Not really able to help with such limited information. You don't say PC or Mac, what OS version you're running, what processor or memory you have, or anything else that might be helpful.

Then again, for an Avid support question, you might be better off posting your question (and some information like I've listed above) over on Avid's forum:

I am running a Mac Pro intel 2.66 with OSX 10.6.3, 12 ram, I tried posting on the avid forum, but it seemed to not work as well as good old DVXuser. Let me know if I can give any other info to help you.

6 is no good for me because the guy that does the ending post work on my stuff uses 5.5, and I just dropped like 500 bucks to get 5.5, so I have to stick with it

Well actually Media Composer is remarkably backwards compatible.

As long as you don't use any new fancy v6.0-specific stuff he should be able to read your project no problem.

Test first though - but sending edits between versions and platforms worked really well for us for years.

MC 6 requires Mac OS 10.7.x, he's running 10.6.x.

Hmm... I thought I had it working on 10.6.x for a while? Dunno... anyway, maybe just need to upgrade to 10.7.x

More thoughts:
1. Did you contact Avid directly? What was their response?
2. Personally I always download the trial first to play with it and see if it works - it's free, which is useful... I suggest that in future before purchasing!
3. What year of Mac Pro are you on?

In my experience (on the PC side) you get a 'tech support' call when you buy a product from web store thats good for 30 days. This is to help people like you who are having install issues. [I've actually used it to help with a problem I was having with my OTHER Avid since the install on my 2nd system went well.] Check thru the myriad illogical emails you got from Avid when you purchased. Or if you bought it from another vendor call & complain until they hook you up with their NLE specialist to get you running.
