So I am about to make the plunge on some new video equipment and wanted to get an opinion from everybody out there.
I have been shooting with the DVX but alas it is finally time to move to HD!
I'm shooting mostly docs but then my own short films as well.
Here is the short list. There are a few Items that i have yet to decide on so some advice on anything would be greatly appreciated!

Video

Sony PMX-EX3
Letus Elite (I have Canon EOS lens for right now)
Zacuto DOF Feature Set Up with Swistronix Power Kit
Matte Box, (opinions on which??)
Miller DS-20 Tripod
Monitor, (opinions on which??)

I am looking into the DV Pro 44 lighting kit from lowel on BandH... any options on that or what is out there that is better?

Audio

A Wireless ENG Kit(Dual Kit) from B&H (which?)
A Mixer Kit from B&H (which?)

Possible the Steadycam Flyer and a Crane (opinons?)

Plus anything else you would add to this list?? Especially maybe smaller items i may have over looked??

Thanks to any advice you can give!

seriously no input. i've alway come to this site for info and input on my DVX and it usually is much more responsive.

To paraphrase Keanu Reeves in the "Matrix", You need more mics. The Senn G2 lav is usually considered the minimum set up. Be sure to get the right blocs. Get a boom pole, xlr cables, shot gun (outdoors) hyper cardiod (indoors).

Letus? The 1/2" cmos are good enough for me. Check this: http://www.vimeo.com/707969 for native ex dof.

Stedi cam or crane. Fish or cut bait. That's the dilemma. I'm trying to decide too. For whatever reason, the Kessler crane is a lot cheaper than its competition and has had good reviews. If you work alone, a crane isn't good because they're heavy.

Monitor? You don't need one to focus the ex3. For framing? I'm just using a 19" Toshiba HDTV that I got from Frys for $230. You mean a monitor for CC? Might try the Matrox Mxo2. Portable. Set you back $2500 though.

If it was me, I spend it all on lights and mics. Much more bang for the buck than the stuff you've listed.

Okay i followed Brian over here.

I use the Sennheiser G2's and they're awesome. It makes it so much easier to do sound if you're shooting it gorilla style. Two of them will set you back $1000. If you go outdoors just grab some nat sound with the camera mic or from a sound library. Just get good crisp dialogue. You don't need a mixer, just go straight into the camera.

I have the Kessler Crane. It works.

i was kinda wondering if the letus was worth it. I'll consider that.
I should have mentioned that I have a boom, hc, and shotgun already so i am set there.

I'll look into the G2s what do you mean blocs?? sorry if that is an ignorant ?

Lavs operate on designated frequencies. Certain frequencies used by lavs have been reassigned to the cable networks for digital signals and are prone to interference. It varies from region to region..

Also, that stock lav mic on the G2 system isn't so hot. Lotsa people upgrade that portion of them.

It depends on what you want to achieve, I guess.
With an EX1, you'll get shallow depth of field if you're using macro, or if you zoom all the way in. In between, DOF is quite deep, even wide open.
If you want to shoot in narrow places AND get shallow DOF, you'll definitively need an adaptor.

I've heard only good about Zacuto. And I've heard at least as much from the Letus V2 rails which cost half as much...

Zacuto is coming out with a new product that will make them the hands down choice in my opinion. (between the Letus and Zacuto) I'm glad I bought Zacuto.

As the biggest Zacuto fan of them all, I must confirm what Mitch is saying. Zacuto has several solutions coming out very soon that will give you an edge with balance.

Why not just send me a PM and I can tell you a little more about it and talk to you about getting a special discount with them?
