I'm at a bit of a crossroads regarding still photo equipment, and my knowledge of the 5D2 (and specifically it's video capabilities) is somewhat limited - so sorry if these are really beginner questions. The search function on this site never works for me (and usually crashes).

I'm currently shooting video with multiple HMC151s and stills with Nikon D700. I need to either buy a second D700 or I could sell the D700 (and all Nikon gear) and go with a couple of Canon 5D2s (with appropriate lenses etc). I know all about the Canon lens line up - I've had Canon gear up to the 1Ds2, so that's not a worry. However the one thing that might sway things in the 5D2's favour is the video feature to shoot along side the HMCs (or occasionally instead of).

Everything I shoot is destined for PAL, so it's got to be either 25p or 50p. Given the latest 5D2 firmware, exactly what video modes does the 5D2 actually support?

What is the longest single clip that the 5D2 can record unattended - given media large enough to record it to? Is there a specific limitation (i.e. 29:59s) ?

Is the HDMI out active while recording? Can this have on screen info with recording status etc?

Is there any specific focus assist on the 5D2 for video?
 
it shoots in Pal land 25 or 24 fps
Video out via HDMI is available but it drops in quality but good enough to shoot

Wait for AF-100.

It's more money than a 5D2 - BUT it will take your nikon lenses via an adapter, you'll be able to sell your HMC151s, It does long record times. I think it will take nice stills (too early to say).

Would love them - but unfortunately I need it to do hi-res stills as well for Photo/Video packages.
