Epson Multifunction Scanner N.G. on W2k

Hi All
I'm running W2k and have an Epson 1650 scanner tha works fine.
I built a box for my friend (also with W2K) and got an Epson RX595 multifunction scanner/copier/printer to replace her Epson R200 which developed paper feeding problems. The printer works as expected (USB) and the copier function works on the unit itself.
HOWEVER: the scanner isn't recognized from within Windows at all (whether from the Epson scan icon on the desktop, or from Photoshop).
I did all the downloading and re-installing of the Twain scanner driver that their tech support suggested. No joy.
Microsoft has a bit on their website about some sort of hotfix for this problem, but no hotfix location.
Do any of you have a similar problem and/or location for this mysterious hotfix?
The problem seems to be only with W2k, as everything works on her new laptop running Vista.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

Maybe it worth to try the same hardware but with XP. I do understand that Vista is preinstalled but I think that might be the way of the problem solving

The scanner function already works with the Vista laptop. No problemn there.
I'm trying to get the scanner function working with Windows 2000 pro on the desktop computer. I have SP4 installed, but can't seen to find the Microsoft hotfix for this specific problem.
Thanks,
