Episode 3 Thoughts (Saw it last night (05.03.05) in Marin)

This film sucked balls.

I'm with David; CGI Yoda is a baaaaaadddddddddddd Yoda. And yes Isaac.

CGI should be used to serve and enahcen and not be the end all solution. CGI Jabba is a ****ing joke and bad dream; it sucked the first time they did it (Special Edition) and it sucks in the recent BOX RELEASE (They attempted to fix the CGI and they also made his stupid ass reaction when Han steps on his tail less gay). The new film suck.

Build a set Lucas. All of these glossy virtual worlds look ridiculous.

I did like it on my first viewing. But I was so excited about seeing a Star Wars film that I was blindly forgiving. I like the ending, because it's nostalgic and it reminded me of the original three. I liked the ending the first time I saw this as well.

I saw it again because I wanted to see it when the hype died down. It's the best of the new ones, but it's so far removed from the richness of the original three. I'm pissed off because the story has so much potential, and it just falls apart under crappy writing and CG characters. I noticed that real actors were actually put on digital bodies, and I don't mean Count Dooku, but the character of Jango Fett. I'm pissed at what coulda been.

I wish the prequels had never been made because they're embarrassing when you compare them to 4,5,6. I shouldn't be this mad about it, but for some reason it really hit me. It's like having a part of your childhood destroyed.

I just really noticed the CGI limitations this time. With real surroundings your actors end up inhabiting and reacting to the environment. It becomes part of their performance and character. With CGI the actors have no interaction with the environment and their only interactions involve other actors. In a way it has the potential to be more theatrical, except the writing is so terrible that the actors have nothing to work with. It's even worse when actors are interacting with digital characters because there's literally nothing there to play off of except a voice, and in those instances the acting/scenes are extremely flat.

With live action environments there's more of an organic collaborative creation. The creature costumes and live environments are awesome in the originals. The CGI environments have a tendency to just blend together. I found the CGI characters and environments pretty indistinguishable from one another. Everything is so perfectly ****ing perfect from the sunset in the background to the little crappy ships flying by. It's all so damn plastic.

Just sucks because the story has so much heart to it, and the execution managed to all but cut out every last bit of it in the story. This probably reads pretty harsh, but that was my honest impression of it the second time around.

I'm surprised each time I read feedbacks about theses episodes that no one talks about the actual story.
Back in 1977 we had to wait for 4 years and half the episode V to hear "I'm your father", that Vador was actually Anakin Skywalker. Luke arguing with Obiwan over the fact that he did not tell him his father was alive ... This has been to this day one of the strongest mid turning point in the film history. We left the theaters stunned by our experience and still having to wait for 4 years because of the final "Luke is not our last hope, there's someone else".
Then 4 years later we heard "you have a twin sister, Leia". Man! Another crazy turning point. And now, 28 years later, we are supposed to see the missing episodes. The ones the upcoming generations are supposed to watch before the old ones. But when episode III ends we know what? Anakin is actually Vador, so he is not dead as Obiwan says in epsiode IV. He has a kid named Luke, and then he has a twin sister name Leia???? So when the new generations will watch episode IV the'll know Obiwan lies, in episode V when Vador says "I'm your father", the reaction will be "and so what, we know that", in the end of that same epsiode they'll Obiwan and Yado talk about Leia, and in episode VI no surprise for the twin sister.
Or maybe I didn't get it and the new episodes are made to be seen after the old ones??

i agree if you the biggest surpirse ever in films is ruined because he wanted to make prequels. i'll never show my kids the last ones.

I feel for ya man, I do this all the time. You get so excited at the prospect of the movie that you walk out thinking that it was the greatest thing that you ever saw ***coughMATRIXRELOADEDcough*** . When I found myself defending the movie in front of others, more than actually discussing what I liked about it, I knew that maybe I jumped the gun.

I have some SW nerd friends who were so amped about this. After they first walked out the theater, they were claiming that this was the best of them ALL. I gave it a month and asked them what they thought: 564321 in that order!

Thought I would resurrect this thread now that ROTJ is on video. I have to say I sat to watch it and I stopped about twenty minutes in because I was bored with it. I just can't get past "Anny"'s bad acting. I think Lucas definitely made a beautiful movie, but that's it.

I was impressed by the worlds that he created, yet felt nothing for them.

i liked episode III. i thought it was better than I and II. i know not a lot of people like episodes I and II because of the dialogue and it not being "as great" and the original trilogy but in my opinion i like I and II... who goes to see a star wars movie for the dialogue?? not me i go because its freakin star wars.... I and II not as good but I still enjoy them.

ps... dont kill me for that lol

I'll admit that I watched Sith again when the DVD hit. Instead of the intense hatred of the film that I experienced in theaters, this time I just experienced pitty.

Interesting side note: All of the deleted scenes are better written, better acted, and more interesting than the rest of the film. Must be why Lucas cut them.

yeah if you like to see people just sitting around talking. I didn't think they were very interesting at all.

the only deleted scene worth putting in was Yoda arriving on Degoba.

I like the SW universe, mythology, and characters. I like all 6 movies, flaws and all. I don't think the holy trilogy is all that either. Those films have their flaws, and bad dialogue as well (come on--laugh it up fuzzball?? hardly shakespeare). BUT! They had a great sense of lightness and fun, that the prequels are lacking...and thats not just because of their darker tones.

I liked Sith overall, and it does have some great visuals...some of the best in the SW films. Nothing really compares to Empire as an overall film, but I still enjoyed it.

I don't think Lucas needs to be pitied. He's laughing all the way to the bank and it doesn't matter if we like his films or not. Regardless he will go down in history as a film icon and innovator.

That one felt a little too much like E.T. to me. But to each his own.

Yeah in many respects it did to me too, but I wanted to see Yoda go to Degoba. The shot itself was framed much like the end of E.T., but I still liked it...if for no other reason than the one I just said.
