**NO SPOILERS (that you haven't already seen in previews, that is) **

Yes, I was one of the lucky ones that got to go to the exhibitor screening for Century Theatres in Marin County (several Skywalker Ranch, ILM, and LucasArts peeps were there).

5 STARS EASILY!!! Lived up to expectations, from beginning to end, Movie of the Year candidate. I'd it wraps up between 98-99 percent of unanswered questions. Very emotional towards the end (Like Titanic? NO! Will it leave you teary eye? Yes, more than likely!). The movie could've just been the final showdown between Anakin vs. Obi-Wan/Palpatine vs. Yoda alone, and would've still rocked. Everyone here on DVXuser.com, fan or not : WATCH IT!! (I'm going back to watch it w/my peeps on Thursday morning!)

A lot of people rip on the direction the series was going on, but when you look at the story as a whole, it's probably the greatest story ever told cinematically, and this movie had to (and DID) bring together both trilogies. The first trilogy HAD to tell the story of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, Padme, the Troopers, the politics of the galactic universe; a move that pissed off critics and casual fans, but the true fans saw the big picture and again, this movie will make people realize the responibility Lucas had on staying true to the biographical story of the spiritual death of Anakin Skywalker, not Anakin doing a Han Solo knock-off with wacky hi-jinks. If you watch the DVD that comes with the Episode 3 soundtrack, you'll actually see why it makes sense that Anakin is first shown as an annoying kid, and shown as his young self in ascended form in Episode 6 (Jar-Jar was a horrible move, no matter how you look at it, though).

R2 probably does his best stuff in this movie.

Didn't get to see the Mace Windu of the CloneWars cartoons, but, he's still Mace.

Grievous is a little weaker than when we first see him (see the CloneWars to see how he gets to his current state), but still twirls 4 sabers.

Seeing the Palpatine we know and love of Episode 6 is sooooo bad-ass!!

Poor Count Dooku!

Jar-Jar is barely on screen for 10 seconds(10 seconds too long) and has no lines(Yay!). Sorry guys, Anakin doesn't behead him. :thumbdown

Best LightSaber anything of the whole series.

As usual, John Williams delivers!!

If you been in a creative or motivational slump this movie is a wake-up call to not give up on filmaking. Even if you don't like Star Wars at all, watch this movie and it will make you want to watch and appreciate ALL the films (not just 4-5-6). The whole theatre applauded, and not one person came out saying anything bad about it (unlike episodes 1 and 2). It's that damned good!

BTW, make sure you watch the Clone Wars cartoon Vol. 1 and 2 BEFORE you see this, to see how they get to where they are at the beginning of the movie. It will also explain how Anakin improved his Jedi mastery in 3 years since Episode 2.

If anyone else has seen it already, please discuss.

Thanks for the review you lucky bastard.

I have been shouting "Crap!" for awhile now in terms of the old school - new school comparison. I have been really let-down with this new incarnation. Will I see this? Yes of course. I confess it loooks waaaayyyyy better than the last two crapfest excuse for Star Wars films. Deep down, I want to like it, I want this film to bring the magic back to me; I have high hopes but am cautious because of the last two films.

I'm completely with John on this one. I bought the hype of Episode I and II hook line and sinker and felt betrayed on all counts. I'm approaching Episode III with hopeful caution.

Hey....give Episode II a little credit. It was 10x better than that Jar-Jar Crapfest of Episode I.

Don't worry, Lucas will go in there and fix episode I and II in about ten years. Then they'll match up better with III - VI.

I'm surprised they screened it there instead of The Rafael, which is an awesome house only a mile from ILM / Kerner. Maybe they needed a larger public venue?

Can't wait to see this one - guess I need to finally rent episode II.

Believe me, I felt really let down with Episode I for the same reasons you mention: No Han, no FUN. But when you have to establish how we get to 4-5-6, of course it's NOT going to be fun. Anakin as an annoying brat? D'oh! Establishing the galactic political structure in a movie? Yawn. Establishing Jedi who by the rules of the film can't be wild and crazy guys? Snore. Obi-Wan a boring goody two shoes, even as a young guy? Please.

The whole Star Wars story is about the tragic life of Anakin Skywalker, not Luke, Leia, and Han fighting amongst themselves and having a weird love triangle.

It's unfortunate Lucas's approach to the prequel was making each story to tell one whole story, which hurt each prequel movie by themselves. But if watch the 1-2-CloneWars-3-4-5-6 in succession, it works well, and it was the way it had to be shot. Look at the big picture, folks. If that still doesn't bring any magic back for you, it probably was never there to begin with. No one will ever be able to please everyone.

Believe me, if and when they do the pre-stories of LOTR(w/Isuldur and Bilbo Baggins) with 20 times the CG we have now, I bet you everyone is probably going to hate them for the same reasons("The fun is gone!! No Legolas?! No Aragorn?! Damn Peter Jackson--he can't direct anymore!! He relies way too much on CG!!"). Totally unfair when LOTR, along with other stories, as it all tells one big story about a ring.

That being said, Jar-Jar still sucks.

I really don't know why they picked the Century in Corte Madera.

"Hey guess what, all in Northern CA, Lucasfilm is holding a special screening of Episode 3 next to San Quentin!"

sugahsean469 - I totally agree!

I always liked I and II episode. And it's not comparable with 4,5,6 imho. It's a whole other world - a story told with the same kind of passion but on a other ground. People change - so George Lucas (even Spielberg paid a lot of money to replace shotguns with radio transmitters in E.T.).

I bought old trilogy in a second as well as the new trilogy which is great piece of entertainment and a part of one of the greatest stories ever told. And you cannot please everybody so always there will be JarJars and ewoks...

Don't forget The CloneWars (Volume 1 is on DVD now, but you'll have to find someone who taped Volume 2 or wait until they repeat in on Cartoon Network.)

It's takes place between Episode 2 and 3, and show more of the War(duh), Mace taking on a shitload of droids, the Special Ops Troopers, Anakin making more bad choices down the dark path, and debuts Asajj Ventress(the female Sith who gives Anakin his scar over his eye) and General Grievous.

Actually, PJ does have "The Hobbit" lined up as his next project after King Kong. Should be interesting.

The material preceeding LOTR will never be made into a movie. The Tolkien estate has emphatically declared that the Silmarillion (the collection of mythological stories behind LOTR) will never be made into a movie. The only reason LOTR was possible is because the rights had already been sold (ever seen the crappy animated version :P).

While this is a different topic completely, I feel that PJ made some critical errors in his representation of LOTR - though it is by far the best rendition yet. Maybe I'm too much of a purist.

The Silmarillion really has an entirely different feel than LOTR so if it was made into a movie we would certainly have a number of "fans" turn on it.

I'm not entirely sure that the new Star Wars movies can be compared in this manner though. The new movies are intended (as far as I can tell) to fit the same style and manner as the original three. I don't mind the use of CG. What bothers me are the annoying characters and cliches. Then again, that bothered me about the original three as well.... maybe he did do a good job of recreating the same feel and we have all just forgotten how poor the first three were (in terms of acting and annoying characters - who actually likes C3P0 anyway? Though combining him with Jar Jar was definitely a poor move)

EDIT: Quote tags weren't working properly

The hidden romance between Frodo and Sam. What was that about? I think that was PJ's "Jar-Jar Binks is a Great Idea!" moment.

I really enjoyed the first two films... moreso when I was watching them in a theatre with other star wars fans.. that is a good night out..

I am even more stoked at all the positive things I am hearing about the new film... People can whine and complain all they like about Lucas and his movies..

but damn.. he is living the dream of any filmmaker... he is completely independent of Hollywood and the studio system.. technically he is the most powerful indie filmmaker alive..

****.. i can't wait to see it.. the anticipation is reaching new heights of crazy

I hated episode 1, I remember to this day, There I was In this huge friggin line at 9am in the morning with all the star wars fanatics ( I guess that's me to ) but having grown up with star wars it's been ingrained into my brain, I sat down in all honestly thought it blew ( yeah I own a copy, it still blew ) and I had prebought tickets to see it again which really sucked... I do Apreciate it more now, there were a lot of great elements, episode 2 I thought became such a digital film ( I.E. Over Digital, there were again a lot of dislikes and likes ) but despite that I know that I will again be pre buying tickets to Episode 3 and basking in either it's glory or failure.... It looks awsome ( but the trailers for the previous films did to ) oh well 2 weeks to go......
